All Ping Iron Players

I just had Ping build a new set of Eye2+ irons for me and I got Z-Z65 cushion in them. These are fantastic shafts and are an "updated ZZ Lite" IMHO. Ping irons to me, especially the older models do very well with very light but very stiff shafts and these fit the bill perfectly. If I ever order another set of irons from Ping, these shafts will be in them.

I also have a set of I3 blades I snagged off ebay a month ago for $300 that were brand new, never hit. They have JZ stiff cushion in them and they don't feel bad in that head, although I've only hit a few balls with the 7 iron. They are going in to Ping to have the lies adjusted from blue to green and then I'm going to extend them 1/2" when I get them back. I'll give them a spell in the bag and see how I like them.

I play s58's. I have project x in them. I had dgx in them before and did not like them. Tried my friends set with the same combo (he had a different lie than I do) and ordered a set that day. Better feel and control than anything I've tried so far.

this is a great topic for me. I love the feel of i5's but need to find a shaft that will get my ball flight down. I hit the zz-65 too high; balooning them even....thinking about ordering some i5's in a D1 swingweight, hard stepped to get the ball flight down. If I chose to do that should I hard step them once or twice?

...Or would it be a better idea to spend the extra $15 per club to get DG S300's with cushin's or $30 to buy the tour concepts

Driver swing speed 100-102

Thanks for the feedback

LongandOB,

contacted Ping reference the I5's with stiff ZZ shafts and advised that i hit them too high....they recommended hardstepped x2....only had a chance to hit them into a net but they do feel more stiff but not overly so if that makes sense....can still feel some kick....won't get them to the course until Thursday....oh, and the swingweight is D1....

Does anyone have opinions on DGS vs. Z-Z65 in S58? Is only thing that will be different flight height? Does one shaft feel better than other?

I am thinking about ordering S58 and I can't decide between Z-Z65 shaft or DGS. I read that DGS will give me lower ball flight and is much heavier than Z-Z65. To whom would you recommend Z-Z65 instead of DGS.... and vice versa. I am thinking about ordering them with D3 swingweight.

Is there a difference in feel?

Will Z-Z65 give me extra distance, but loss of accuracy?

Which combo will work better?

Thanks alot!

Please list what irons you are playing and what shaft. Thanks.

Playing blades, but when I do hit Pings, they are 1992 Eye 2+ with the modified KT-M shaft...KT shaft was redesigned after they tended to bend at the hosel on the Zing irons. Very similar shaft to the ZZ-Lite in weight, flex-point, etc. Surprisingly, a very nice shaft-stiff flex, very accurate, good distance. I won't reshaft them because they are completely original and in very nice shape after 15 years.

My favorite Ping shaft is the ZZ-65. Best shaft I've ever hit in a Ping iron.

Wow, a lot of dynamic gold shafts being played.

I use Ping S59 Tours 4-PW with Tour Concept S3's and will never go back to DG's....Ball flight is much more controlled and penetrate through the wind. If you are thinking of shafts for your PING's, these are pricey, but I have no disappointments with these shafts or anything bad to say about them whatsoever. ;)

i5's with WRX custom installed UST Pro Force Gold 95 grams Stiff flex 1/4 inch over. Solid as ever graphite shafts. Much bettter than the PING TFC 100 stock shaft. The Pro Force have all the characteristics of steel. Slight upcharge, but most definitely worth it.
