This is a really great story for PING. Not only did Marty make the PGA but one of his other club engineers made the US Senior Open. Mike Nicolette, who helps design the S-series irons, made the Senior Open and finished up quite well. I met Mike and he was one of the nicest pros at the Open that week. Great job Mike and luck Marty.

Are other club companies fielding design/engineers like Ping, or is this somewhat unique to the brand?

I ask because Ping has always been "closer to the ground" than other companies IMHO, with so much emphasis on the college game, women's game, etc. Seems like a genuinely GREAT story if indeed unique.

Interesting little interview on the PGA Tour Radio on XM (still not going to subscribe to satellite radio after the free trial runs out, though).
Talks about adjusting his clubs for the set up. He normally plays in Arizona so he's dropping from 4 wedges to 2 with more bounce.
Judging the rough, he went with a 5-wood instead of hybrid, bent it to 17 degrees and cut it to 7-wood length.
For hitting the low-ball with the G20, his preferred method is to actually tee higher but adjust the impact on the club face to get his trajectory.

Must be nice to tweak to your hearts content at work and get paid for it.

And qualified with them in the bag for the PGA Vegas tourney last year... He has been a real player here in Phoenix for a while....

Cabrera did this at the Masters when I was watching him in a practice round. His normal tee height for is (at the time) i15 driver was LOW. ball not showing above the clubface at address, and he stripes it with a beautiful medium to high trajectory. Then he teed another one up and more than half the ball was showing above the face, and he trap-smothered it about 20 feet off the ground. just crazy

[color="#8B0000"][b][i]SAN MARTIN, Calif. – In the three sessions he played prior to Sunday’s singles matches, American Marty Jertson was a perfect 3-0 in the 25th PGA Cup here at CordeValle.

With the U.S. starting the final day with a 10 ½ - 5 ½ lead and needing just 2 ½ points to retain the Llandudno Trophy and remain undefeated on home soil, Jertson was a logical choice for the lead-off slot in singles.

The Senior Design Engineer for PING Golf from Phoenix, Ariz., didn’t disappoint U.S. Captain Jim Remy. Jertson had a 4-up lead after holing out on the 10th hole for eagle with a pitching wedge from 138 yards on his way to a 5&4 victory over GB&I’s Craig Goodfellow.

The eagle on No. 10 was Jertson’s second of the day. He also had one on the par-5 sixth hole when he knocked in a long putt.

“I hit a nice 4 iron pin-high on No. 6 and rolled in about a 20-footer for eagle,” Jertson said. “And then I made a nice birdie on 8. Nice putt for birdie on 8. Then, No. 10, I think it was kind of the dagger. I had a little pitching wedge in there, up the hill and had a little backstop long left, I knew I could feed it into. And sure enough I hit it in there and it sucked back. But whenever you see a ball disappear from the fairway, it's always a good thing.”

I have to add to this string....albeit a few weeks/months late to the game.

Not only is Marty a great player, he's a great person.
We played a lot of amateur golf together when we were both in Colorado (circa 2000-2003), to include playing together on the Colorado team at the Pacific Coast Amateur. It's such a great feeling to see the success of really good people, especially when they are friends.
