I HAVE LOVED GOLFSHOT....(BEFORE THE RECENT UPGRADE)....now-lots of bugs since the "upgrade"....my distance from every hole in this past weekend's round was literally...MILES from the pin. I hit a long ball...but the par 3 7th at my club is not 2.1 miles !!!

Ya, mine has shown miles from the pin too since the update. I find that if I switch from "gps" view to "score" view and back, for some reason it seems to re-look at the gps distance and display the correct distance. That may be a decent workaround until they send a fix out. YMMV

What about measuring the length of your shots with golfshot? Is this accurate at all? Would enjoy dialing in my clubs exactly.

Interesting. Maybe it's an upgrade issue. I didn't buy the GPS version until after the 3.1 release and although I've only played one round with it, I didn't notice any issues like that. I'll pay more attention next round to be sure.

This is a great new feature, used it just the other day. All you do is tap on the hole number on the screen and the top corner falls down. Tap the club and then walk from the place you hit the ball and when you arrive at the ball you hit done. Then you choose the club you just hit the shot with and it records it. Then at the end of the round it gives you your averages with all the clubs you hit.

Just remember to use it on full swings to make it more accurate. Also it does not factor in hills. So if the yardage is 150 and its an uphill shot you may be surprised that your 8I which normally goes 150 is 10 yards short.

For $30 this is one of if not the best golf app for iphone

Yeah I pretty much understood how it worked, I was just wondering if it's very accurate? I'd like to measure drives and such.

I am late to this thread but I was told by my golf Pro that these apps on Smartphones are "non conforming" (USGA / R&A) because all the new Smartphones (I Phone, Android , Blackberry) have built in compasses.

Furthermore he said players CANNOT post handicap scores when using non conforming equipment. Penalty for using the non conforming device --- DISQUALIFICATION.

But then I would have to say that, I wrote it :-) But I know for a fact that a European putting coach is recommending the app to his clients on the European Tour.

DNice, I have the Droid X and was thinking of switching to the Iphone 4s myself... my question is do you like it better than the Droid or is it all the same? Sorry for going a little off topic just trying to get some info before I switch.

Droid x is garbage. My wife has one and it was great for about 8 months, and since then it freezes all the time and has generally sluggish response.

Droid is like a windows pc. It is always nice at first but then for no reason they goto s*** and have to be reloaded.

The Android platform's greatest strength is also it's greatest weakness. By having a closed platform like Apple has with everything they sale, they ensure that everything plays well with everything else (including apps). While an open platform allows for a lot of flexibility, it also allows for a lot of instability. Each consumer just has to pick which is more important to them. I've reached a point in my life where I just want my s*** to work...I've grown tired of having to screw with stuff all the time to keep it working. By the way....I'm an IT guy who's made a carrier in the Microsoft world.

That being said, pick a platform and stick with it. These people with a phone of one platform and a tablet of another are idiots. The key to mobile device happiness is picking a single platform and sticking with it regardless of whether it's iOS or Android.

Owt.....i more or less agree with heyBrady and threeonparfive. It is nice to have a phone that i know will continue to work. I wasnt impressed with the iphone 4s navigation but then i downloaded "waze" and im happy. Only downside to the 4s is the battery life is ok. Not terrible but not great either.

I really like WeatherBug. It gives current weather, forecast and radar maps. You can pick multiple cities for it to track and it's free!

+1 for golfshot, especially when combined with golfplan.

Best gps, best scoring, best stats recording, best looking. I use it flat out from about 95% charge on an iphone 4 and it probably only chews through 15-20% battery with everything still turned on (3g, wifi, full brightness etc) Golfplan has a small bug at the moment where you watch a video and at the end of the video it crashes, starts straight back up but its annoying. Contacted support and they are aware and working on a fix-apparently...

I am still testing to choose between the TW swing app and SwingReader Pro for recording my swing. I've had heaps of succes semi-fixing my swing plane on my own with the aid of video. Its funny how you look so different to what you think your doing. No replacement for proper lessons but is cheaper for practising getting my fundamentals right- posture, plane, club position, knee flex, shoulder rotation etc.

I wish GOLFWRX had its own app like some other forums have, would be easier when im out-n-about.

Golf Digest tips app is good, not awesome but just good.

I used the iPing putter app and whilst it is pretty awesome technology utilising the gyro in the iphone 4/4s and did help with my tempo I'm finding since i had a few extra tapes added under my grip the cradle makes the feel of the putt a little strange. Like the shaft is flexing badly even though its not. might need to mount it actually on the grip. Not sure what a thicker grip would do to feel with the cradle but it just doesnt feel very nice anymore.
