Turning 40...where to celebrate

Recommended Posts

Hi all. So. Turn 40 this October and planning a 3 or 4 day getaway to remember. But where? It would be 2nd week in October. Some ideas I have kicked around are palm springs PGA west, nicklas and Norman courses. Bandon dunes. Sawgrass and the dye valley course. Any thoughts? Figured bandon du es may be a little cold in oct? Help a brother out!

My buddies and I have also tossed aroud where we'll play for our 40th bdays (all turn in 2013). We went back and forth between Bandon and Pebble. We decided on Bandon. Why? Because they're walking only courses and we figure that we're likely to be in better shape when we're 40 than when we're 50 or 60! And we knew we wouldn't be able to squeeze out (out of the budget and from the wives/kids) another epic trip like this for a while. Save Pebble and Palm Springs for when you're older. Also, October is still a great time in Oregon (at least that's what I've heard). That said, October is the best time of year IMO along the northern california coast, warm weather, no rain, and less fog.

Bandon gets my vote. :good:Of course I am biased, since I live in Oregon. But facts are facts and my biases are irrelevant in this case

Seriously, Bandon Resorts' four courses are VERY nice. October is still nice, usually. Might be windy or rainy, but probably will have temps in the 50's - 60's. And might be sunny and calm. Go to their website, explore it. Call their reservation number, they are most helpful. Ask about special package deals for lodging meals and golf.

I just have concluded some planning for a golf outing for 8 in late March. The folks there are great to work with on the phone. And I have played there before, so I can testify that I, for one, really was impressed with the courses.

As far as I am concerned, If you want the prestige factor and you have an unlimited budget, go to Pebble Beach. It will be a neat bragging point. But I really believe you will get better golf, more variety easily available in a package, better course conditions, at Bandon. It really is spectacular.

Depends on Budget and what you want to include besides golf (if anything). If all you want is GREAT golf and a pub to hang out in after your rounds, Bandon is the choice. If you want other things to do there's always Vegas for gaming and partying or the Dominican Republic for warm weather & sun.

Bandon is hard to beat. Weather will still good in October. If you go ask for Scot Phillips for your caddy he is a old friend and has been at Bandon for a while.

I also really liked TPC Sawgrass and the weather there will be warmer.

And as someone else mentioned Vegas has the nightlife to go with some nice tracks.

And if you go to Palm Springs play the TPC stadium course also.

I also really liked TPC Sawgrass "Stadium Course" ($375). The Sawgrass Marriott has top notch amenities including a beach club and free shuttle to courses and beach. If you book your golf / hotel together you get your room for $99 night. The tour of Club House and Stadium Course is well worth 45 minutes of your time and allows you to have photo Op's with Family & Friends at 17th Hole. I highly recommend your Birthday Dinner to be at Ruth Chris Steak House. Also, make sure to get a "walking caddy" and enjoy the experience like the Pro's.

God, I wish I was 40 again : )
ENJOY!

My thoughts, 3-4 days kinda removes overseas like scotland or ireland. I can tell you that playing the monterrey courses is like none other. Pebble, spyglass, spanish bay, Poppy Hills, Monterey is truly an experience you will never forget.
It is however, a tad bit expensive.
My other "experience" that I cherish, Pinehurst. It was so awesome. Great golf. A clubhouse that awes you. Great food. Stay at the Carolina. Play #2, 4, 8, Tobacco Road, Mid Pines, there are too many to count. And it does a little less damage to the bank account.
I've played and stayed at a lot of the USA courses, and those are the standouts.
Happy 40th.
