Not a picture of clubs I have but I tried out my new scanner today with a Macgregor ad from 1957 showing the M85's and 945's and woods

Everyone,
I would love to see pics of your MacGregor Tourney Custom irons. Musclebacks, Diamondbacks, 985's, or any others would be great! Love those flat soled, square toed blades!

Here are a few that I have,
One set is a custom ,no stamping s other than the Macgregor and number on sole, a set of custom Macgregor Nicklaus, notice there is no Muirfield , just Nicklaus , this set is a set that was owned by Nicklaus, as set of Tourney Custom 985, Armour Silver Scot 985 and a Penna 67 VIP

My 945s 2-9 and Silver Scott PW. They were refinished without the copper face, when I got them through Ebay, but still look very nice.

Thanks, 53 Precision and Teevons. That is what I had in mind. I would love to have a set of the Tourney Custom Diamondbacks. I have a line on a mint set of Tourney Custom the 985's. But if anyone knows of a set like 53 Precision shows, let me know.

I also have a set of the Remakes of the M85's and MacGregor Tours...

this is the Tourney CF4000 set that starts the season for me. It used to be the job of my Hickories, but those have been passed on.
I have teamed them with a TP driver , a spare Muirfield 3 wood and a fine grained TA 5 wood. A TPM Spalding putter rounds off this [attachment=1023661:102_6259.JPG]nice playing set.

53 Precision,
Any idea if the person you sold the Tourney Custom Diamondbacks to would like to sell them? Or does anyone else have a set of these they would like to sell?
Keith

Probably not, he sought me out after a mention of them on this site and offered me more than I, in good conscious, could turn down...sorry.

I've seen a few interesting designs in that Nicklaus Custom Limited mark-up, notably the winged back like yours and a 985 reverse muscle. They've always had diamonds on the scoring lines. Do yours? The also sometimes have a custom toe like rounded or square that can make them a little different from the Muirfields or 20ths. Great set!

Here are my:
- - Old set: 1961 MacGregor CF4000 MT1s, 1-9 + 11 + Penna TP1 (bought used in '63+/-) [pictured on another thread];
- - New set: 1982 MacGregor Custom wingbacks, 1-9 + 10 + SW (bought new) [satin plating finish called 'standard' then].
Plan to get them dirty soon, hopefully starting this week. Hope you all do, too.

Love the MacGregor Custom design of the wingback model!

MacGregor never made a LH 10 iron with a wingback design like yours-

Even though Charley Penna showed the designs, all the LH MacGregor iron model grinds ended with the 9 iron.

Charley-

Yes, that is what the spec book says......and what your designs show there was to be no difference.

Unfortunately, there are enough LH MacGregor sets with wedges in my possession where the 9 iron and the pitching wedge (or 10 iron if you wish) do NOT have the same milling cuts. Having just looked at the RDXLH iron set, and the Tourney Custom set, allow me to share photos of the 9 and PWs shortly.

Yes, even the 1955 MacGregor MT Tourney Colokrom Wingback iron set.... with your uncles "TP" stamped initials -

[attachment=1131642:100_9375.JPG]

the Sand Iron shown above does not share the Wingback milling cuts present in the RH "M series" Tourney Colokrom models.

included is the 9 iron to the LH set.
[attachment=1131640:100_9369.JPG]

If someone has LH MacGregor irons with wedges that share the same mill cuts that are in the iron set,
(Possibly the '61 "Big M" Tourney series) I'm interested in seeing them.

So I guess that means "Yes"

If you mean the wing back versus the more flat back as milling cuts, there is a functionally reason why carrying out the cuts would not make a functional club

Charley-

Yes, that would seem to be reasonable, but notice these two RH MacGregor Sand Wedges....
[attachment=1131788:100_8218.JPG]
[attachment=1131790:100_8220.JPG]

So it would appear these were made to be functional.
All I'm saying is, the RH MacGregor series wedge model designs weren't translated to their LH models.
Hey, if you can find a LH "Wingback" wedge that looks like these two....

Hey Old Pro,

here is a picture of my Tourney Custom blades. I have been playing them for about 8 years(Headcovers are a wonderful thing) and they were in new condition when I got them. They have S-300 shafts so I'm guessing they are reproductions. I really know nothing about these clubs except for they are the smoothest blades I have ever hit. I had a set of 69 Wilson Bullet backs that I had rechromed and shafted with S-400's.I put those away once I hit these. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
