MacGregor Tourney Custom Irons

One of the popular things of the Mac custom program was to make these sets with either "Tourney Custom" stamping or a club logo. I'm guessing yours are the wingback above with a club logo.

Do they have the vertical lines on the face that sort of frame the scoring lines?

Yes, my '82 wingback set (photo in my Apr.4th post above) has a single vertical groove at each end of the horizontal face grooves.

I just noticed that the 'grooves' question above was addressed to you (not me). Do you have a photo shocing the fave grooves on your irons' you could post?

[And I agree, your irons look like '80s MacGregor custom order 'wingback' irons, whth a personal or club logo [bird-in-square-in diamond'?] stamped on the back. [My '80s wingbacks, shown in my Apr.4th post, were referred to by one golf shop guy as 'blanks' - no club logo stamp on the back].

Interesting how the 'upper' iron (in the photo showing two irons) has both a rounder toe and top-line.

Interesting find there. Anyone have any idea on the stampings? TiO2 is Titanium Dioxide and Al2O3 is Aluminum Oxide. Some sort of special chrome or face treatment perhaps? And Mach 2.2 is certainly a mystery to me. Whatever they are, they're certainly in nice shape. For $82 shipped I think the buyer's going to be very happy with those.

My guess is that the irons were made for somebody who worked in the aerospace industry. You'd find unusual metals and Mach 2.2 speeds in that business, I think.

I've got a set of these winged MTs - stamped M77. Posted pics of the whole set before, no one had seen them before so I guess they qualify as customs.

There is a LH MacGregor Tourney Custom diamond back set for auction on EBay, but the set is only 3-9 iron, no 10 iron or P wedge.

This is one of very few LH diamondback Tourney Custom sets done by MacGregor.

Cool…love the diamond back Mac’s. Not many around, especially with the full diamond; here’s a peek at mine. The set is matching 1-10 irons, I’ve never seen a set the same. Beautiful and serious players iron, great strong ball flight and perfectly weighted. It is a special order set with serial number of SO4230A.

I haven’t seen another grind as these myself…not much camber at all but some nice bounce throughout the set. I’ll try to get a pic up of the soles in a bit.

The shop where I do a lot of my putter shaping has one of the sweetest sets of Tourney Custom irons that I have ever seen. They are virtually brand new, with zero grass wear, only net time. The original shafts were pulled and new shafts and grips installed two years ago. They were put on the rack for sale and have sat there ever since. I will try to snap some pics tomorrow with my phone and post them here.
Same shop had a set of MacGregor Custom grinds with the tell-tale "DW" stamped at the base of the sole for sale a couple years ago. I kept fighting the urge and watched them for about four months. The day that I withdrew the cash and headed for the shop, they were no longer available. Someone paid the whopping $175 and got a very, very nice set of blades.

I have a set with the same markings on them that I re shafted with some Kbs tour s+. They are sweet, did you ever figure out what they mean?
