I had completely forgotten to check the progress of Trump's new course in Aberdeen until I saw some pictures in the latest GD.

 

Love him or hate him... this place looks simply amazing...

Yes the place looks amazing...Hawtree Trumps architect built a course about 30min from where I am near London On Canada and it is one of my favourites to play...Makes me want to set up that Scotland trip even more now.

It'd be interesting if you took Trumps name off this track....people would probably agree that its a sick looking Golf Course and could very well be one of the nicest courses built in Scotland. Just saying

Yep.

Trump International Bedminster is the best course in New Jersey.
Trump International Los Angeles is the best course in California.
Trump International Philadelphia is the best course in Pennsylvania (actually in NJ and clearly better than its neighbor, Pine Valley).
Trump International Westchester is the best course in New York.
Trump International West Palm Beach is the best course in Florida.
And, of course, Trump International Aberdeen is the best course in Scotland.

Just ask him.

Trump is currently shouting from the roof tops about a proposed wind farm being placed off the coast near his course.I reckon he'll be using this as a reason to cancel building the houses/hotel...whereas the real fact is the global financial turndown, even in oil rich Aberdeen.
I'd go as far as to predict that he'll try and punt the course in the next 18-24 months, shouting to all and sundry that the Scottish govt has made it impossible for him to operate.The fact being that Scotlands investment in alternative energies outweighs the relative small increase to golf income his course will produce.

In saying that, I'm playing it in June and very much looking forward to it.

Expected to create over 1000 jobs, most of which would be temporary in the construction business.Big but coming, he's not going to build houses that he can't sell, look at the problems faced at Archerfield.They just got out before the slump.
And compare the 1000s of jobs being created in a sustainable economy like wind turbines in Leith and Rosyth, I know which sounds more long term to me.

I've always thought Trump was just kind of a loud mouth spouting off about how great this course would be or that course would be or how great his course in DC was going to be. I'd played the course before Trump bought it - it was always nice, but nothing amazing. So I thought it was Trump just blathering - per usual.

Until I played there.

I dont know, you can hate on the guy all you want, but he puts his cash where his mouth is and I'll say that its one of the nicest courses I've played in the entire area. I was completely surprised. Part of me wanted to hate it just so I could continue to think he was a loudmouth. But everything about the place was mint, really incredible.

I'll be in East Lothian in May, if we were back in Fife I'd be tempted to make the 2 hour drive and squeeze a round in at Trump.

Not convinced. Golf in dune landscapes such as this is a pretty new phenomenon and really has its roots in Ireland, where Pat Ruddy has built some fantastic examples that look less contrived than this does.

For example what is that meandering lateral water hazard all about? Sure, a few of the famous scottish links have burns, but nothing that looks like that.

I am sure the course will attract plenty of visiting golf tourists but the best event this place will get is maybe a shot at the Scottish open in two decades time.

If you guys like the look of this place check out The European Club or Rosapenna, both in Ireland, as better examples of how to turn a stunning landscape into a proper golf course that still looks natural (in truth there are countless examples in Ireland). Bandon Dunes looks much better than Trump's effort also.

Look at saunton sands in Devon uk, rated by most as a definite British open but due to space. Amazing course
