GolfWRX First LOOKs! Titleist Tour Proto D Driver Pics!

Recommended Posts

The D1 is not as deep of face as the D2. Lucus Glover was carrying the ball 315-320 with the D1 today. I guess it sets up real square. The only problem is that Titleist changed graphics on the D1 and the USGA did not approve them yet, so no one can use the driver this week in the tournment.

They changed graphics on the D2, not the D1. The D1 is legal for play this week.

I was told by a very notable source that the D1 is not legal for play this week at the Chrysler Championship and currently isn't on the USGA conforming list. I am told however that it should be legal for play next week at the Tour Championship.

:cheesy:

not on the usga site? not legal? would this picture from the site prove that wrong?

BTW: They update the site every monday morning.

Emphasis on 'not legal for play this week' big guy. And like I said this info comes from an very noteable source.

You keep watching that website to see if anyone is playing it this week! :drinks:

You definitley said it wasn't on the usga site if I'm correct. Did your Notable source also tell you that?

What kind of pear is that?

Okay guys - I'm not sure how many of you have seen pics off the Cally FT-5, but the demsions of the Titleist & Cally look identical to me.

When looking down on the top crown these driver look very similar - IMO. Dose anyone else see the similarities?

Also - NikeProto is there any way you can explian the "6453" concept to us? I'm assuming that it is some type of MOI calculation???

I think it's rather clear what Titleist is doing here. They are going to try what they did with the 905 line. You know, make different drivers for different people. The D-1 is Titelist taking a chance and going for the wild shape or spaceage look market and the others are more for players that like a standard look.

The bottomline is that all the companies have hit a wall with the USGA and R&A rules. With the rules stating clubheads can be no larger than 460cc's and the COR factor, they are running out of things to do. They want your money so, the whole spaceage shape is a way they hope to get you out and buy.

Exactly. How much longer can they rehash the 975D? It may be my opinion alone, but I don't think the J, K, E, S, or R have been anything but bigger D. At least they are actually moving towards a more technological driver with the D1.

See, it all starts over with the "D" again :drinks:

Also to qualify what can be misconstrued as a negative comment, I do not think the newer drivers are bad (J-R), I simply don't think they offer that much "technology" over what I consider to be a great driver (975D).

Wow. The face looks almost identical to that of R7 HT or some sort. All of a sudden, my 905R is starting to look a little "old" to my eyes. I've noticed that some of the on-line stores like TGW already cut the price for 905R by some $70 or so. Does this mean that Titleist is actually going to introduce the new model(s) soon after the PGA show? Does anyone know for sure??

Wow, all I have to say is that this came out of nowhere. The other pictures of the 907 made it look like a traditional driver, but now that has been blown out of wack. Its about time that Titleist caught up with the ufo shaped driver wagon.

The K was a BIG step up from the D and J. Remember when Ernie first got ahold of that thing and was just nuking it past everyone in Hawaii? It was THE driver for a while, and certainly a whole lot better than the D.

That being said, yes, the T and R are just bigger K's. Titleist players (amateur and pro) tend to be extremely conservative with regards to the looks of their clubs. As a result Titleist has been very conservative with their driver designs lately and has fallen behind.

A my favorite drivers in the last 5 years have been a 983 and a 905R, I can only assume that one of these will be in the bag. As for the shape of the D1, if I hit it any farther or straighter than my 905 or the D2, it will be in the bag. :)

I think I could get used to this driver, though I'd like to see it in person first. The top certainly does not look nearly as triangular as the sole pictures would lead you to believe.

Excellent pictures...thanks!
