What club do you use for the 175 yard shot?

Too many variables to make that simple a decision, however; if the green is the same level as the tee, the pin is at exactly 175, no wind and I am hitting it pure, a full 5 Iron will go 180. Since I am rarely hitting things 100% pure the 5 Iron will get me 175 almost all of the time. Wind on my face, a 3/4 4H, wind behind 6 Iron.

Good luck

175 carry, level, no wind? if it's warm out, a 6 iron with my Srixons and a 5 iron with my Mizuno MP67s and Hogan Apex IIs.

Not like i see those conditions here - almost never.
Given the wind and chill, it's either a loopy* 4 iron to keep it under the winds or a 5 iron a little back in my stance.

*loopy - a shot where you are more upright, swinging softer, producing a shot that is lower with not much spin

In all reality, 9i, choke down my 8i if I have a headwind. I really hate how everyone thinks longer hitters always lie...

You're a real "man" now eh? haha but honestly, thanks for the laugh

See what I mean? Your trying to put me down through the internet when you have never played with me. My SS was clocked at 125mph last week with a driver, and a classmate of mine was recorded at 130mph, but I guess thats not true because people on the internet never tell the truthrolleyes.gif

Well like most things in golf there are a lot of variables - I played today (in the UK), it was 5 degrees C outside and winds were around 25-35mph. If they were behind me and it was a downhill green I'd probably play a 7 or 8i, the other way with wind towards me and uphill a 4i or Mashie 18.5 degree, if it was flat, wind free and actually warm and humid for a change probably a 6i. Weather has a lot to do with how well you hit - can tell you now with that 30mph headwind all three of us sucked a bit, when it was behind us we vastly improved - strange eh ;) I think all these guys quoting mega hits all the time come from warmer countries to be honest... :)

Agree with Pepperturbo.

The real answer is it depends on lie, conditions, flag position, green slope, trouble, etc and each 175 yard shot is different.

Flat straight shot no wind into flat center green same elevation with clean lie 172 is 7iron for me. How many of them do we get on the course? If flag is front with trouble requiring full carry or right then take one extra 6 and try a higher cut. If left with trouble left maybe 8iron and try to draw it. If its center back with a lot of room maybe a soft 6 played back in stance to bounce it in.

I am not a great player but i have learned to me that is the most fun part of golf.

If I get after it I get my 7 iron about 180 ususally, but in all honesty Id probably take a really smooth 6 iron. Much more controlled that way. But yes, lots of other variables factor in as well. All depends.

Currently rethinking my hybrids and long irons. Irons are short and hybrids are too long.

I need an accurate club for the 175 yard shot...

Gripped-down 6 vs hard 7.

Yep...ditto
