Home course where I know where everything is: Laser
Courses where I don't know carries, corners, bunkers, etc: GPS

That settles it, lol.

Same here. If I can see the base of the flag, I get within 1 yard with my GPS compared to rangefinder. Approach G6 for the GPS and Bushnell V2 for the rangefinder.

I like the laser to give me pretty much exact yardage to the flag. BUT! I like a GPS more overall because I don't need exact yardage - honestly, I'm just not that good. Depending upon the GPS device, they give me yardage to any hazard so I know what to use to lay up. Plus, I try to view the pin placements on any hole that I pass during the day since I can move the placement on my GPS device - Garmin Approach G5.

You should have had a 3rd option, "Both", as both have their place and particular strengths and weaknesses. I use both during my rounds.
[/quote]

If given the option to play both, I’m sure most will play both, but most of us will purchase GPS or Rangefinder, not both.

There's no question that the RF is more accurate..

With that said, a GPS does a lot of things that a RF can't.

For that reason, I have a Leupold RF as well as Golfshot on my iPhone.

RF for me, no question. As a 1 handicap, I want exact yardages. I can also use the RF to find out what the carry over a bunker, or water or to a layup area, etc. The only time I think a GPS is better, is if you play courses with lots of blind shots. But I live in the flat ol' Houston area and I have no blind shots.

Rangefinders are more accurate but also more instrusive. Sometimes a guy can look like a real dork pulling one out and aiming it out there and saying "It's 224 to the water 246 to clear. That's s a good 5 iron for me."

So he hits it and lands 60 yards from the water.

I prefer a Gps!!! No having to point at anything every hole. Have used a rangefinder and played with those who have one and it was a pain waiting for them to keep looking through the range finder and getting the distances all the time, whereas on the GPS they appear automatically and distances are dead on for me on no matter what course I play on but each to their own on what they feel comfortable with!!!!

Tried both and GPS won ..that simple , i tried 3 different lasers and unless flag sticks have reflector it is difficult at times to get yardages as it picks up trees, buildings ect and if you are a early morning player laser does not work in the fog period , i use a sky caddie , you just have to turn it on ,press a few buttons and it is ready to use where laser is searching , button pushing and hoping to get any yardage , for me the reality is that GPS is easier to use and gives me a usable yardage with going on a search and rescue mission every hole

Your poll will never end the argument, because it's like saying--- what's better, a tape measure or a yard stick? Both have advantages and disadvantages and each are better suited at certain things the other is not. Just like a GPS or Laser, both can measure, but each is better suited for things the other is not..

GPS on my phone is used during a round 90% of the time. I use the rangefinder a lot when hitting at the range to see distances as I go to a couple of different ranges and depending on the weather, hit from different areas at each one.
If I had to have only one I would choose the rangefinder. I can get general distances from markers on the course. If I need to know anything more accurately or how far a hazard or layup is then I have the rangefinder.

using both? dosent that slowdown play? what happen to you being able to judge distance by the eye? oh thats right we lost that skill when the invented the range finders? create the dought and increase the need? my nikon laser i usally pull it out on the range or at a place i have not been to before, have not pulled it out at my home course in couple of years.

I don't use both at the same time. Phone with GPS is in the cart or in my pocket and I just look at it when I am wanting a general distance. If I want to know how far something is then I grab the rangefinder (also in the cart usually in the cup holder) and shoot it. I probably waste anywhere from 5 to 15 seconds looking at my phone which is usually once a hole on average. If I want to get a distance on something with the rangefinder then I probably waste 15-20 seconds but that is only maybe 5-10 times a round at most.

Sorry, but this poll doesn't "end this once and for all." The results of the poll will merely indicate the preference of those who:

1) Frequent Golfwrx
2) Cruise "rangefinder/GPS" threads
3) Read the poll
4) Choose to vote

It's also likely that people who own or use NEITHER device will vote their preference as well. What's that going to prove?

Nice try.
