Played Lighthouse on 5/31....course is in good shape & an outstanding value for $25-$35. Not the longest course you will ever play, but still tons of fun.

Hey guys, I started another Austin meetup thread but thought I would chime in here. I live south and usually play Clay/Kizer & Colovista the most but will play anywhere. If you guys ever want to tee it up send me a pm. Usually get out every Saturday and at least once during the week.

I'm up for trying to do a Austin meetup next Saturday the 14th. It'd be a good way to celebrate Father's day weekend. I live south like you and play Clay/Kizer quite a bit but like to travel to play especially if we can get a group outing organized.

Had to post some props to River Place. Played yesterday....and the course is in top shape, tee to green. I haven't seen it like that since the 90's, when it was one of the premier courses in town.

Way to go RP...I will be back.

For a really good coach in NW Austin, call Rick Arnett or Philip Miranda at Great Hills. Ghills is a member owned club but the pros will work with outside students, especially juniors. They've had a bunch of good kids come through the club and go on to play in college. Both really good guys and both very good teachers.

Hey Ya'll,

I booked Kizer at 12:57 tomorrow for me and a buddy from out of town, but he hurt his wrist and can't play. If anybody wants to join up shoot me a PM. I can't cancel since it was through Golfnow and I'll be out $40 if nobody joins me, so thought I'd use it as an opportunity to meet another local WRXer.

Played Shadowglen yesterday. It's in good shape, greens were rolling great. It's never busy out there, so we finished in about 3.5 hours. I'll be hitting up Teravista in about 9 hours from now.

Even the greens? Every time I've played it the greens have been hairy. Good to hear though !

Teravista was in the best shape I've ever seen. The greens were fast, but rolled perfect. But I got an email from them yesterday with a special "aerification special", so it appears they punched the greens sometime between Saturday afternoon and Monday morning.

Okay so it's confirmed, Teravista has punched their greens. I drove by earlier and saw them tearing them up to the point I won't be playing the course anytime soon.

Played Star Ranch 7/16 and it was good as always...I bet its really sexy now with the rain Thu and Fri.

Played Mo Willy today 7/19...fairways a little sloppy with all the rain, but greens were really good. Best they have been in awhile.

I haven't played Mo Willy in about a decade. Have the changes done anything to make that course a little more challenging/exciting?

How does it compare to Legends on LBJ? I played Legends about a month ago and enjoyed playing there. It was in better shape than earlier in the year. Still a couple greens with bad places, but the pins were placed away from the bad spots. Hardly anyone there in the later afternoon.

In general, its still feels the same when you play it. They have really upgraded the green complexes...new grasses and undulations. They added a second fairway to #13 to reduce the goofiness of the tee shot. Most of the money spent on new clubhouse, practice facility and recycled water irrigation system. You should go play it if you haven't since the remodel. Its worth $25 easy.

I have not played LBJ in quite some time...but it would still be a better choice over Lighthouse, especially if its good shape.

Thanks, I'll have to give that a shot. I used to live across the GHCC clubhouse from 2000-2008 and have seen the pro's give lessons at the range.

I no longer live across the clubhouse, but it is only a 5 minute drive away and I'll have to check on their rates for outside juniors.

So I played Wolfdancer today, Monday 4 August.

That's a good golf course.

The greens were pretty much healed from the aeration, I guess I'm just not crazy about bermuda greens but I guess they are in as good a shape as bermuda gets. I'm from San Diego, we play on bent and po mostly.

Anyway, went out at 0850, played by myself, although there are a few tricky holes with yardage book ($10) and the GPS I was able to pretty much navigate it, with the exception of nine.

I hit a cut that I thought for sure was going to find the fairway, i never found the ball, I suspect it kicked left into the trees/hazard on the left, so stay further right than you think on that hole.

I played one ball from the tips, one from the blues, didn't think the tips (7200) were too long (I'm about a 265 carry) (not much wind to speak of today).

They told me I wouldn't need driver on every hole but there were only two or three I really needed to throttle back.

The cart girl came around several times, and the pace was good (I played in about 3.5, and had a foursome push me from time to time).

I paid $68 on their website. Range balls included, there are about 30 balls in a bag, I went back and got another bag which was complementary, I don't know if they would have given me two right off the bat, the range is a little ways away from the parking lot, which is where they give you the balls.

Definitely recommended.

Avery Ranch punching greens today 8/7 and tomorrow.

Falconhead decent shape on 7/30...they actually have grass on #8 green now. They are reworking bunkers left of #7 green, so that area is a mess at the moment.

heard they're going to close Clay for 5 months or so sometime early next year to work on those greens, about time. Can't believe that the same greenskeeper that works on Kizer also works on Clay. Kizer's green are so much better.
