Golfers in Austin, TX

White WIng was in great shape other than some neanderthal that was dragging his/her feet on the greens in a group ahead of us. Showed up an hour early as usual and the range was closed for maintenance :fie:, so my only warm up was around their short game area across the street from the clubhouse. I was paired up with a guy and we flew through the front 9 only to have a pair of older ladies jump on #10 in front of us. It was a slow going back 9 as we had to wait on every shot for the multiple groups that were backing up in front of us. Wasn't thinking it'd be crowded on a pretty hot Wednesday afternoon. I played a good round of golf though so I can't complain.

Off to Dallas to play Brookhaven and Firewheel this weekend. Anyone here play Brookhaven Masters course that can give me some information about this course. I can't even find a course layout or scorecard anywhere online.

Going to play Shadowglen Saturday, found a GolfNow deal, $25 for a single or 2 for $45. Thughunter mentioned that the greens had been sanded recently. What shape do y'all think they're going to be Saturday?

I played the day they were sanded and the following morning. With the heavy rain we had the following Friday, I'm sure the greens are in pretty good shape at this point. I almost chose to play there this morning, but decided to go to White Wing to change it up a bit and visit the parents in Sun City before the round. There's a pretty good chance of rain on Saturday, but the temp should be down a bit.

Played ShadowGlen today and the greens are very good.

If you didn't play golf in Austin today then you missed a perfect day. This time of year in Austin can't be beat.

Just wanted to give a quick update on Falconhead. I played last Saturday and got lucky teeing off just following a UIL tournament. They had mowed the greens in the morning and rolled them so they were rolling like glass - best those greens have rolled in a LONG time.

Fun fact - Falconhead is not overseeding this year with rye because of what happened this past winter season. With the pockets of warm days we had during the "winter" months last season, the bermuda started to grow in and really created a mess on those greens. Once it got cold again, it would of course die off and create some ugly/patchy surfaces. That's why they struggled to get them in good shape this season. Should be interesting to see how this philosophy works out for them. I have no idea what it's going to be like once that bermuda starts to go dormant.

On a side note, by the looks of it, looks like no one is playing golf these days. Updates stopped Sept 27th?! C'mon man!

Well I have been playing about the same amount and probably like everyone else just having been posting. Maybe we can get the activity level on the site at a higher level.

I also played Falconhead the last week in October and they had the greens rolling nice at that time. I had not played it in a long time and was surprised that they had swapped the two nines. Makes for a very hard closing hole now (new #18 - old #9). It is a long par 4, uphill and a challenging hole if the wind is out of the wrong direction. Unlike a lot of GolfWRX'ers my drive is only 250 yds and that leaves a long uphill second shot. But I did enjoy the round. Also loved the large oversized scorecards they are now using. What did you think of them?

Glad to see the local courses drying out a little. ShadowGlen has been really wet but has held up pretty good for all the water they have seen. Forest Creek still had hole #9 closed last week - hopefully it is open by this time. I don't play Onion Creek very often but I guess it will be some time before it opens again. I played Avery and they missed most of the water.

Perfect weather this weekend and next week is looking very nice. Got to love golf in Austin.

Great day for golf in Austin.

I played ShadowGlen and it is starting to dry out nicely. They are mowing all the over-seeded fairways and that really helps. Tomorrow is supposed to be even a better day - in the mid 70's and not too much wind. Have to find somewhere to play for sure.

I played Forest Creek 1.5 weeks ago and it had some impact from all the rains. 3 of the holes were closed for repair and it was not in the shape that I usually see it in.

Played Crystal Falls yesterday.. wow!! The course is in great shape.. and is looking like a premium course with all the water features in full flow and greens rolling at around 10. It feels like a beast if you play from the back tee boxes (not the tees which are sometimes put forward and it does not play its true length).

I played Crystal Falls last week and it's crazy how firm the fairways are. Some of my drives were +50yards compared to my usual drives in the northeast. I hit my first ever Par5 in two. Greens were in pretty good shape too.

Couldn't play today - my dentist has a car payment due.

But I am playing Shadow Glen on Thursday - plan on getting there around 10:00AM. Last day before the cold weather gets here.

Welcome to Texas golf. The fairways here are like concrete on some of the courses.

Quick update - Played Greyrock last weekend and Falconhead the weekend before and both courses are in good shape. Falconhead's greens are incredible this winter because they haven't overseeded with rye. Roll quick and true. Greyrock is bleh.. patchy weird grassy growing so it's hard to get a good roll without the ball bouncing around.

We seem to be getting lucky on Saturdays with awesome 70s weather so I've been getting out there. Then you have days like today in the 40s that make you wonder why the hell is wrong with Texas. Ha!

Let's get this thread going again. Anyone played Teravista lately that could give an update on its condition?

Haven't played Teravista, but played Star Ranch a couple weeks back for the first time, and it was a sweet course - just a little too far from home for me to consistently go back. The breakfast/lunch and unlimited golf deal is unbeatable.

Falconhead is in good shape per the usual. Greens are quick and rough is being grown out for the US Open qualifier in a few weeks. Always down to play there with anyone who is out here in the boonies.

Yea it was in great shape - I would say it's one of the better courses I've played in town. Like I said, the $69 unlimited golf plus meals is an absolute steal.

Forgot to update: Teravista had some very sandy greens last week, but course was in great shape otherwise. The greens should come around soon if they haven't already. Since it's so close to my new house, I'm likely going to play this course 90% of the time. That is when I get the time to do so.

Don't know about you guys, but I was expecting better conditions at Lakecliff. Greens were fantastic....but rest of the course was a little crispy, especially for this time of year.

We need rain bad, or all the courses we play will be looking like that.

Either of you two interested in joining the CTGA? Real similar to AGA, but more tourneys and more format variety. They have a 2-man coming up in June, and I need a partner.

Quick update on Falconhead - they punched it last Tuesday so it's still sandy, but I played it Saturday and they still rolled fairly well. I would give it another week before it's "back".

Also, anyone know of a good site/app to maintain a handicap?
