Which is the best model of Ping Anser?

Which was pings finest e.g. becu 4, isforc f etc.

Recently my dad gave me his original brass Ping anser ( circa 1975 ) and i found it felt completley different to my other Ping anser 3 from 1995 made from the same material. I then had the oppourtunity to try a Ping anser isoforce f which for the first time, I was very plesantly suprised and without doubt for me i felt it was the best ping putter i've ever tried. It just got me thinking which models other people use and what in their opinion is the best anser Ping evermade?

Well this can only be a personal opinion but...

 

For me its Anser 2 BeCu.

 

I love the soft feel, colour, and its a little more easy to putt consistantly with. The WRX Ti4 and Scottdale BeCu i have, have a short body. This i think is a little short for the hosel and tends to cover the striking point IMO.

 

The first Anser's are too light for me, and the less said about the G5 the better.

I personally liked the Ping WRX TI Anser 2 myself ;):):stop: It was nice and different. Great feel.

A little bit ago, I would have immediately said the Anser 4 (with my preference being to the BeCu). Now I'm thinking I have to answer the Isoforce Anser with the titanium pixels. That putter is VERY nice. Only downside is it seems to be significantly harder to come across, especially in lefty. ;)

Before trying the Ping Redwood anser, i'd say its ping anser f (isoforce). After trying the Ping Redwood, man thats the best ! That said, if you like firmer feel anser f is good. If you like soft feel, redwood is the one.

I've been trying to knock my G2 Anser out of the bag but it keeps coming back. I know it's not the sexiest Anser but it sure is solid.

 

I also have three mang bronze Ansers and two Anser 4's but I've tried them all.

Scottsdale Anser for me, followed by the Anser 2F.

 

I will say that the Redwood is arguably the best of the best..

Anser 4 Becu with Zing 2 BeCu a very close second. I tried both versions of the F in Zing 2, the Manganese Bronze Head with aluminum pixels was a non starter, the stainless head with bronze pixels was better but still not up to the BeCu version.

The Anser 5 (fourth from the left as well as the BeCu righty in the picture). Little much with the offset, and the hosel placement was a little too "mid-centerish" for my taste, but it does have the benefit of being a relatively heavy Ping as far as the classics go, and it is face-balanced.

Ah--thanks. I've actually got one of those (it makes an appearance in one of those pics above). That's the one with the aluminum pixels, and is GROSSLY overpriced. Sightline and the color to the bronze are a giveaway. The titanium pixel'd version is VERY nice and I've only seen 2 of them come up on ebay in the last 3-4 years. I'll take some pics tomorrow if the sun is right to compare--I think I saw some earlier (righty). I'll do a search for those.

G5i Zing Is clearly the best.... According to my wife (i know its not an Anser)

 

I keep on trying to get it out of her bag to sell on, but no matter what i get her to try she keeps on going back to it...don't ask, just don't ask

1. Anser 2 SS (black finish); it's been my gamer for seven years.

2. Anser 2 BeCu; it might take the #1 spot next year.

3. Anser 2 BeNi; it had 2nd place sewn-up.

4. Anser 2 SS

- it is a ping answer, pretty old looking. it is black but the face is a shiny copper. it also has the slit through it and no line, like a newport beach.

Hi Martin. Without seeing pictures it's hard to say with any 100% certainty, but I'd be willing to bet that the anser you have is manganese bronze in the antique finish. It would be one of the ones that sold in the late 90's (1998ish) and the finish was kind of baked on kind, which was supposed to be very durable. The face was ground flat, which explains why it is shiny (unfinished). Check out the CLASSIC SECTION of the Ping website. Click on the manganese bronze. Most of the putters are still available through Ping retailers, except for those with the antique finish--one of which is the 69.

I love the sound of the old 85020 Ansers but they are just too light. I am very pleased with my Specify.(Gray - heavy back) It sets up great and is just heavy enough to smooth out my take away.

Just to end what i started!

I have just bought a Ping Anser 2 becu on the bay, it arrived this morning and having got to the putting green at 3 i'd still be there now if it didn't get dark at 6. This is the best Anser Ping ever made !!! :drinks:

Does anyone know the difference between an Anser 2 and an Anser 3? Ping still offers some of their classic models in manganese bronze and I wanted an Anser 2, but all they had was a 3 (and the Scottsdale and standard Anser of course).

 

From photos, the Anser 3 looks exactly like the 2--but there must be something different.
