I just got a set of Adams cb3 irons, but I still have the A4's waiting in the wings if they don't perform well. I was able to get the satin finish A4's before they quit making them thru DD's 3-pw and then bought a gw and satinized it to match my set. I never hit the 3 iron and wound up selling it on EBay about a year ago for $90. I have been tinkering with shafts in my A4's and have tried s300 (sensicore) PX 5.5 satins (hardstepped) True Temper Black Golds (harsh shaft) and currently have a set of Nippon 1150 gh tours (SST pured). The best feeling of those is by far the Nippons but they spin too much, so that is the reason for the current cb3's.

How do you satinize it?

I say satinize it because I have no other better terminology for using steel wool to make the chrome gap wedge somewhat resemble the rest of my set. Basically I just knocked the shine off it.

Got my A4 forged with project x 5.5 shafts in today.

Got to play 7 holes before dark with them. Hit them every chance I got even in places where I would usually hit a hybrid or fairway wood.

Have to say that so far I really like them. very smooth feeling and get through the turf very well even though it was soaked from rain.

Cant wait to get some more rounds in with them.

I posted a link to the ones I got earlier in this thread. After hitting them I feel like I stole them for the price I gave.

I have been playing these irons ever since they came out, and cannot get them out of the bag. I have tried ping s56, mizuno jpx pros, mizuno mp59, titleist ap2 and so on. I cannot find anything better. Is there anyone else still playing these clubs.

I just sold mine to a lucky wxr'er with Steelfiber 80 shafts. I had the 4 iron, too, which is an awesome club (but not with Steelfiber). These are indeed superior heads. I now play some callaway diablo forged, mainly because I didn't want to take the shafts out of A4 heads, and wanted a heavier shaft. The rig was just too sweet to tear apart.

Is there anywhere to get the A4r's cheap like before. Some guys were saying they got them close to a hundred dollars but that has been awhile.

I think once the cat was out of the bag it drove the prices up. I had 2 sets, the ones I have now I paid $90 shipped with Prosoft inserts installed.

was thinking about upgrading to some cmb's or proa12s, and am shocked to find the pga value on the forged A4 set is only $20 (5-p)! does this sound correct?

I think on ebay these go for about $150 to $200 used. Adams in general do not hold their value well. I still love my A4 forged irons and have been using them for about 3 seasons now. I know it's fun to get new toys but new irons won't improve your score over the A4s...unless you have shafts in them that don't fit your swing. These are very solid club heads.

  • 4 months later...

I just picked up a set of A4's in 3H/4H, 5-PW for $100 with the stock DGSLs and they are basically brand new, look like they have hardly ever been hit. Hit them 2 nights ago on the range and was VERY impressed. I was playing Callaway X-18s and these are so much better feeling and seem at least as forgiving (I guess the real test will be once I get them on the course, hopefully sometime this week). I liked the trajectory I was getting with the DGSLs but may eventually look at re-shafting them with PXIs if they stick around. The guy even threw in an A4 Tour 4i, which I couldn't hit to save my life but will be fun to play around with and maybe hit off the tee on windy days.

Overall I am VERY happy with the purchase so far and glad I took a chance on them, but to be honest for $100 there was no way I could pass these irons up.
