anyone still playin Ping i3 O-size irons?

Were the low irons known to be easy to hit? I hit the 2i in a sim today and it must be the fact it was off turf. It was too easy to hit. I only carry to a 4i now, and still probably wouldn't game a 2i, but it was nearly as easy to hit as my hybrid and I know that isn't the case with most 2i

the i3's are phenomenal irons....my grandpa gave me a set for Christmas my sophomore year in high school (2002) and I played them up until this past winter when I picked up a set of S57's...mine were the i3 Blade but they were in no way hard to hit, a little less forgiving than the O Size but not bad at all...mine had hit so many balls the flat finish on the soles had become smooth and had a bit of shine to them...my cousin is a 1-2 handicapper and he still plays his i3 O-Size irons he got in high school

There seems to be many more i3s than i3+'s available for sale

What's your Ping color dot? Mine's white and it seems like it always takes forever for a set in the right specs to come up for sale when I'm looking for them.

I don't really know. My static fitting was green, but black, blue, green and white have always been ok when hitting balls. I need to get refit.

Bought a set today at Golfsmith. They had a white dot set that was 1/2" long, like I like. Not in the best shape, but $92 to hold me over for awhile. They feel nice. I need to hit the range with them.

I've been gaming them since the S58's came out and I bought my brother's i3's. Even the mis-hits seem to feel smooth. I've been curious as to the lofts as well since I hit these pretty far but have a BIG gap between the i3 PW (~47* if I remember correctly) and my Tour-W 52*. I've looked at getting i20's but have wondered if the i3's are similar in feel to the i20's or g20's?

I played them for about 10 years before my son borrowed them. Never got them back. He still plays them today. One great club.

Ok, bought these from golfsmith, used of course, and they felt awesome off the turf in store. They had so many sets I got fitted and white dot was it. They had a set, so picked em up and hit the range.

Did not hit em worth a lick. The PW was the most consistant club I have ever hitn and for some reason, with every other set, its my hardest to be consistant with. Other than that I struggled with my towards. I couldn't aim these at all. The offset was throwing me for a loop.

Played twice with them and I hit em thin, fat, left, right, you name it and I hit it there.

Just threw my MX200s in the bag again and shot the 9 of my life. I assume its a coincidence, but dang these feel better and not as offset. I guess this experiment didn't work out. Time to sell!

Irons are all about 80% shaft and 20% turf interaction.
JZ you either like or not. In my case not for me so I would never get i3s (99% had JZ stiff or reg).
OTOH, I dig Z-Z65 and I would get anything with this shaft.
I play i3+ Combo with Z-Z65 and they have found #1 spot time and time again. Really, really deadly when I am on.

Sdandrea, i bought I3 Oversize Blue Dot new in?? 2001??
Gave up golf for maybe 8 years after that.
Anyway, sold em 4 years ago and now back to S 58's.
Nice. Very Nice.
I have distant memories of my ISI K sand wedge always working...always...
That is what drove me back to Ping!
If Pigems is listening, how many PING Clubs make a Ping Bag?Just bought that great Hogan Bag in the weekend !!
The 949MC 4 wood is not to be sold !!
Everything else is replaceable.
Bidding on a Rapture Driver soon.

Wish I would have seen this a few years ago...I played with both the i3's o-size and the i3+. The i3's were the first set I was ever sized for. I had zz65 with the Cushin inserts. I was a lot younger and stronger then but still they were awesome clubs. I liked the i3's better than the i3+ in it seemed like the i3+ bounced off the ground a bit more than the i3's. I saw a kid on the local high school team this year playing a combo set of i3 osize and the i3 blade short irons and it took me back...

Bump. After playing them a few times I found there was just something about them I didn't like. I just couldn't feel the head throughout the swing. So I went on line to check out the specs and found that they were D0, which explained the problem as I like heavy feel and higher sw. I put some lead tape and got them up to about D4 and they are much better. I hit them much better and the feel has improved significantly. I will probably tinker a bit more with the tape til I get the sw right. I'm thinking about D6 will be perfect

I understand a bit more on how to swing a golf club now than when I first gamed these several years ago, when I was fairly new to the game and swing-clueless. So, it's a different experience now.

I'm thinking these are in between GI and a player's CB by today's categories. I'm wondering how they might fare and be perceived if released as a current model today.

So i have a set of o-size that came with a P, S and Utility Wedge...it just has a U on it, do you know if that is equivalent to the gap or lob wedge, or is it a different loft entirely?

Wow, this is an old thread.

I still play my O-Size I3's with a blue dot. I've had the 3-PW set for over 15 years I believe, and actually added a 2 iron to my bag last summer. I did quite a bit of research looking for a 2 that would match the rest of my set exactly, including the shaft and grip. Finally was able to find a great deal on Ebay and jumped on it.

As some may know you can call PING with the serial info and they will give you the birth info on the clubs right there over the phone, so I was able to verify that the 2 I got was legit.

LOVE the clubs. The long irons are extremely forgiving. If anything I'd consider trading out the PW for something else but I just haven't done the time to research.

I've still got my Ping i3 Size that I was given by my parents when I was 15... I'm now 38! Actually going to upgrade this year as starting to play more regularly (currently off 6), but they are amazing irons. I'll be sad to see them go.

I kept them for so long as they are two inches longer than standard and extra stiff and I was always worried about replacing them with something inferior.

I played my O-Size green dots from 2004-ish to 2022 when I finally wanted to feel what all the tech hullaballoo was about.

I got into a TM p790/p770 combo set.  For me at least, the difference was significant towards the better.
