Things I've hit at the course (and I dont mean fairways and greens)

Recommended Posts

This is for the lighter side of the game. I'll start:

A red stake along the water 5 yards in front of me. It sounded like a gun went off. Broke the stake in half. Ball took a 90° AWAY from the water by luck.

A sprinkler control box on the fly with a drive. Quite a few dents, so I wasn't the first. Again, sounded like a gun went off, only a bigger gun.

A dome style tee marker two sets in front of me. The ball shot off another 120 yards forwards and right into the last hole rough.

The sand bucket for replacing divots at a drop area. After putting two in the water, it was just a half attempt to give it another go. I did put a nice dent in it.

I know there are a few more I cant think of right now.

And for as bad a golfer I am, I did get lucky once and hit a hole in one.

Lets hear yours.

There is one hole on my course, a 350yd par 4 that doglegs to the right at the 200yard mark. I've lost count how many times i've hit the 150 marker that lines the left side of that fairway.

I played with a guy in the club championship a few weeks ago who hit a sprinkler control box with his drive like you mentioned. It wasn't his best drive as the ball never got more than 5 feet off the ground. The problem was that the box was just over the far side of a water hazard. Sure enough, he hits the box flush and bounces straight back into the water. His round went to pieces after that.

Back in high school, at an inconsequential summer tourney, one of my buddies stepped up to 10 (his first hole) after a long night out. He managed to thin his drive off of the ball washer (about 35 yards ahead of the back tees) and into the parking lot off his own car's windshield. He didn't say a word. Just picked up his tee, grabbed his bag and walked straight back to the clubhouse.

Several years ago, I was playing and a buddy of mine hit a line drive off the tee that never got more than 4 feet off the ground. It was headed at a group of geese and caught one square in the side on the fly. It flipped the goose over onto his back and feathers flew everywhere. We had 3 foursomes on the tee box and we all stood there with our jaws on the ground. Amazingly, after a few seconds the goose started kicking his feet but couldn't flip himself back over. Another goose came over, put his head under his back, flipped him back on his feet and he walked off uninjured. Still the funniest thing I've seen on a course!

I skulled a wedge into the side of goose about 20 years ago, and same thing, a bunch of geese gathered around and got him back up on his feet.

A few weeks ago I pulled a low screamer off the tee and hit the flap on the top of the ball washer by the women's tee, about 30 yards away. Broke the plastic and the ball went pretty straight another 100 yards or so. I hit those annoying little cart signs 10 yards in front of the green all the time

A buddy of mine hits a line drive, you know, the one that is pulled about 30 yards dead left of the target and never gets more then about 30 feet off the ground, well, it heads dead at a house on the left side of the fairway. Just misses a window and implants into the siding of the stucco house. You can see a white ball hole as you stand on the tee of #3.

Another buddy shanks the sh*t out of a 4 iron tee shot and the ball goes through an open 2nd floor sliding glass door, right into a guys living room :cheesy:

My friend a few years ago teed it up about a club length behind the tee markers and manages to hit one of the markers. The marker was solid and ricocheted back about 30 yards. It was amazing. Oh, and there's that one unfortunate time that I hit deadpool_25 in the face with my hybrid (we try not to talk about that one much).

On a golf trip with a bunch of guys from work -- with his tee shot, one guy in my foursome hits a port-a-potty, inside of which happens to be another guy from our trip (playing the hole behind us). Sounded like a gunshot going off from where we were, can't imagine how loud it must have been inside!

Literally scared the s#!t out of him.

Playing in a member guest, we were in the lead after day one, and grouped with the team in second...They had a bunch of shots, my partner and I ham and egged it all weekend. On the back nine we started with 5 birdies in 6 holes. Par on the 16 and 17 was a par 3. Closes to the pin marker looked like it was in the hole...One of the stupid ones that has a little post and a sign holder on it....I hit my tee shot all over the flag and one hops the stupid sign, blowing it to pieces and my ball ricocheted of the green....ABSOLUTELY LOST IT!!! Sure enough...The post was still in tact, and the sign holder was in like 10 pieces...

I once hit a seagull while he (or she?) was in mid-flight maybe 100 yards in front of the tee...it was a with a tee shot obviously, off a driver. It was a direct hit and that poor sucker crumpled and plummeted to earth like a sack of shi...poop.

I thought for sure I'd killed the thing, but after maybe 20 or 30 seconds it popped up, flapped it's wings a few times and took off, flew away like nothing had even happened!!

If it can be found outside chances are I've hit it. Porta-johns, golf carts, herons, a swingset in someones yard, a BBQ on someones patio, a barn 200 yards off the course, hit a postal truck one time, tee markers, yardage stakes, windows, you name it.

I learned to play on a course that was carved out into a subdivision and as a youngster hit it long and crooked. I left my mark on that place that's for sure.

In the same 9 holes, I pitched in from 30 yards, caught a 3 wood 4 grooves low and drilled a goose about 20 feet in front of me (the thing barrel rolled into the pond and swam away) and I mashed a drive which one hopped in the fairway simultaneously as a car drives across the fairway (there was driveway/service road that crossed the fairway) and drills the front fender. The ball ricocheted out of bounds.

I played Pebble Beach some years back (actually played on Super Bowl Sunday the day JT ripped Janet's boob out for the word to see). It was the weekend before the ATT Pro Am. All of the scoreboards and grandstands were actually fully set up. On 18, (which I birdied by the way) one guy in out group bladed a wedge out of the greenside bunker. It went straight thru the scoreboard behind the 18th green and left a pretty large hole lol.

About 20 years ago, I was playing at a state park course that had a road running parallel to the 18th fairway. I hit a big slice line drive off the tee that was heading straight at an SUV coming towards us. The ball hit the road and skipped right into the grill of the SUV and disappeared (it lodged in the grill). The driver just kept on going and never had a clue what happened.

My twin hit a horse that was 60 or yards right off the right side of a hole and across the road. It had to be a 100 yard block. The horse snorted and whinnied and started charging around

We still joke about it almost 6 yrs later

To this day we hammer him on the tee in our practice rounds for the big scramble. We are all making horse noises and screaming .. don't hit poor Dusty again

I've hit power lines, stakes, carts, bags, houses, etc but never dinged the wildlife

I hit a worm burner with my three wood and took out a robin. Three weeks later while playing a course in N. Cali. a skate boarder was coming down the cart path towards my group. I took aim and luanched one ,nailed him in the chest. ( ran into the woods after that)

I almost gave a goose a golf ball suppository. There was a group of geese, facing away from the tee box, hanging around a pond that I had to hit my tee shot over. I hit a worm burner that stayed about 2 ft. high for 150 yds headed straight for one of the geese and at the last second it lost altitude and went right between it's legs. If the ball had stayed at 2 ft. it would have hit that goose in the back of it's head.

One night in a league, the two guys we were playing against were riding. 18 is a dogleg right par 5 that plays straight uphill for your second shot. Perfect drive and can go for it in two. Other guys play their shots while my partner and I were still walking to ours then drove up to their balls parked diagonally in the fairway about 75 yards in front of me looking back at us directly in my line. I yelled up to them to move a couple of times, they kept yelling back we're fine fire away! Okay...low screaming line drive right at them. They both dove out of the cart like what you see in movies when a vehicle is about to get bombed. Ball hits the center console that had the drink holders, unbelievably loud bang. All I could see were the liquids exploding up into the air. The console was destroyed and the guy that was driving the cart was still milk white an hour later.

I hit the same tree 4 times... today.

Hit an approach long off the back of the green, was behind a tree but I could punch it out and at least have a putt. Instead I bladed it right into the trunk and it dropped 4 feet from it. So now I'm 4 feet behind the tree but can go under about a 3 foot high branch, you're seeing where this is going. Bonk, back to my feet, bonk, back to my feet, bonk, back to my feet. I picked up after the last one. Couldn't help but laugh for as bad of a golfer I am to hit the same spot 3 times in a row is pretty ridiculous.

I hit a nine iron into a METAL 150 yard marker at a high school tournament last year. Scariest sound I have heard considering I was 6 feet away from it. We all lookd around and waiting to see where it landed and suddenly heard a loud CRACK and it smashed onto someone's wood deck and they lady ran out and grabbed my ball and went back inside. I also hit my dad square in the stomach on a skulledflop shot. He was teding the flag and the ball dropped 3 feet from the hole.

Similar story. I remember it like it was yesterday.

Playing in a scramble. 164 to a right pin. I was playing a high draw all day. Started it out over the fringe. Tracking, tracking, tracking. GUN SHOT!

The closest to the pin holder was turned facing the tee box right in front of the hole. It very well could have been a hole in one. Hit the sign, spun like a top 60 feet off the front of the green. I just stood there in disbelief, finished my beer, and went on with the tournament.
