i'm curious if there are any stories of actual attacks. i've seen several times the hissing or the chasing of someone or spreading the wings, but if you stand your ground when they come at you do they actually bite or when someone says 'attack', can these actually be dangerous?
As mentioned before, Geese don't tend to bluff. You hold your ground and they will bite. The annoying thing as well is that it's rarely one if you stick around. Once one goose has stumped up the courage to get in your face, the rest will follow suit.

Highly entertaining at times. Had a mate charge a big pack to clear them off the fairway. He got them to run about 50 yards or so when they all turned around and charged him instead and chased him the length of the whole. Priceless!

So far there is no problem with Canadians on our courses here but; they are a problem with stores in No. Washington.
Hah.
Though I wonder at which point people in the 'Ham are going to suck it up and be happy for the extra jobs and tax money because of it.

I played a muni last year in AsHeille. THey Had rope strung aCCross tHe ponds in a grid pattern at water leVel. THe geese Come in for a landing and get tripped by tHe rope. Geese dissappeared soon after. (Sorry for tHe Caps, keyboard is messed up)

That sounds interesting. if they have no way to get to the water would they stick around ?
this works. there are a few courses here in southern ontario that do that. unfortunately, my home course is not one of them.

I never used to care much, but since I got a pushcart last month it is annoying having to clean all their droppings off at the end of the round.
The two courses I play the most on SF Bay get all sorts of birds, get rid of my countrymen and there's still all the seagulls and weird black ones.

There was a fox munching on a goose one day. The fox must have been smaller than the goose, so I can only assume it got knocked out by a cart or ball and the fox pounced.

Played a course on the south shore of Montreal today. Spotted a few geese along the course, but the main posse was waiting at the 18th, a par-5 with a wide dog leg around a creek. Pondered if I should hit into them, as they were just sitting in the wrong spot. So I did, and the ball landed smack dab in the middle, and rolled through without hitting any one of them. I still had to walk through the bunch to get to my ball, though.... hard to look dignified when you keep an eye out to avoid stepping in the guano, and another eye on the most menacing cobbs honking at you.

we have a guy that comes every couple of weeks with 3 dogs, 2 border collies and a duck toller. It is quite a sight to see them go after the geese .. talk about high energy running and swimming

The geese are 98% gone all year

We have fake cutouts of fox, coyotes, dogs, wolves, etc. The geese sleep under them for the shade in the summer when it is real hot. (LOL) We have lots of swans. They simply share all the ponds we have on our course with the geese. I have been reading here about geese attacking humans. We never see that, and I'm telling you we get hundreds and hundreds of geese. The swans will hiss and come at you but we never see the geese do that.

Geese are a huge problem most anywhere on golf courses. Thank the tree huggers for their protected status.........Aside from all the droppings, they dig holes in the greens!! Golfers should be allowed to shoot them dead and eat them. IMO

The biggest problem in AZ is Havalina followed with coots, and in CA its Coots, also known as Mud Hens. Incredibly destructive to courses, and they have no natural enemy. I've seen Geese every now and again, but they are not nearly as destructive. Coots eat turf down to dirt.

Canada geese are hardly an endangered species
Our club has taken various measures over the years and we don't have many geese these days. They used to be quite a problem.
Hmmmm...that's what they once said about the Buffalo, the Great Auk, Carrier pigeons, The Tiger. the Dodo Bird and many more species that Have been eliminated or nearly eliminated at our hands. Most existed in such numbers as to never be endangered. With the exception of the tiger in my list, they are all gone.
These birds are a protected species. Too bad that they get in your way. While you play golf. In a place that would naturally attract geese and much other wildlife. If all golf courses did what yours did, we might be able to add the Canada Goose to my list.

Having said all that, we here in Canada don't have problems with geese on our courses. We have them all picked up and shipped to golf courses and parks in the USA.

Working on the golf course and hearing people talk about the geese almost every day, I have to be honest and say that I have never heard anybody suggest that they ever be killed. Persueded to find another location to feed and poop,..........YES, all the time. Killed,.................NEVER!! :stop:

I wouldn't call it a diatribe, but yeah, it was strong. I decided a little humor might be a good thing.........
