Scotty Cameron Circa 62 #3

Caring For My New Baby!
Hey Guys,

My wonderful girlfriend just bought me a new Scoty Cameron Circa 62 #3 as a Christmas pressent. It's so pretty it almost looks too nice to use. So here's my question, does anybody actually have one of these in play on a regular basis and if so how do you care for it? The sales guy told her I should put some oil on the inside of the head cover to stop it from rusting? Does this sound right? I'm worried it might damage the headcover itself. Also what type of oil should I use? I oil my MP-30S ith WD-40 after every half a dozen or so rounds, wold that be ok for the Scotty?

Thanks in advance guys, all constructive comments are always welcome & if you have any questions you'd like to ask me shoot!

Noley.

DO NOT use WD-40 on your putter!!!! It will soften and eventually remove the paintfill. I would use 100% silicone spray (usually electrical grade) or silicone cloth on your putter and irons. Silicone will provide a barrier between the elements and the metal of your putter/irons. Keep in mind that leaving a film of silicone (or WD-40) on your irons is a rules violation in a Tournament. Here's a few photos of good silicone sprays and cloths

Well, heres the thing i read up cause i just got it too. The whole deal with oil in the head cover is that the whole reason for the headcover is to keep it dry alot of people say that dry is the only way,

I read the way to keep this putter is to wipe it after coming off of the green with a normal towel and keep the head cover on it, Before and after every round rubb some baby oil on your finger and rub it across the putter and then dry it with the oil cloth i believe. i have yet to go on the course with it

Leave the baby oil alone. It works but not nearly as well as silicone spray IMHO. I have had several putters that were carbon steel and I used silicone spray (or a cloth in a pinch) on all of them and I never had any rust or significant loss of the finish. I agree with the other poster, keep the headcover dry and wipe your putter down with a dry cloth/towel during the round.

I have a Circa 62 #5, these are great putters! Definately keep it dry. I would recommend removing the headcover in between rounds. If there is any moisture inside the headcover you will end up with rust problems. I've been using baby oil but I think I'm going to try out the silicon spray, thanks for the tip guys!

The other place to get absolutely pure silicon is a SCUBA shop. You can also get pure silicon jelly for long term storage. If the silicon is used for life support equipment it is pure, food grade silicon.

I also use the Cameron cover at home for storage and I have a second cover for use on the course. I only slip the Cammy on after I have cleaned, oiled and dried my putter (not necessarily in that order.) I use silicon jelly and no cover for long term storage.

Guys, you are a wealth of information, thanks for the great replies. I have a yellow silicone cloth, so I guess now I need to find some silicone spray, could proove tricky here in Ireland. Will let you know how my search goes. By the way can anybody tell me are there any performance differences between the No. 2 & the No.3? I had my heart set on a No.2 but they didn't have any available. Haven't put the No.3 into play yet and I believe she still has the receipt.

Thanks,

Noley.

My understanding is that the #2 has less offset and more toe hang than the #3.

Headonastick, I believe you are absolutely correct but what difference will less offset and more toe hang make in a putter.

You will love the Circa series. These putters have tremendous feel. I have a Circa 1 and absolutely love it. Some people use baby oil on a cloth to wipe down their putters to keep from rusting. Good luck in getting your Circa 2.

Supposed to make the putter easier to open and close - if you have a stroke like a door opening and closing this is for you.

Thanks guys, so if I understand correctly, the No2. would be more suited to a straight back and through stroke? If that's the case I may be better hanging on to the No.3

The Circa #2 is well suited for a gate stroke as well. If you prefer the flowing neck style instead of the plumbers neck then it still is no problem. I also prefer the #2 over the #3. Go get your #2 and putt away!

Here's a few pictures of my Circa 1. I had the finish changed to an "Oil Can" finish. I love the flowing neck and the feel of this putter is certainly among the very best for OTR putters. You will love the Circa. Yes, there is maintenance wiping down the putter with a silicon cloth but it is a small price to pay.

My buddy has one, and uses his gun oil to keep it lubed up. There seems to be some discussion out there about the pros and cons of this, but I'm not arguing...I know what else he uses his gun oil on! From my observations over the last 6 months, it has seemed to work well. Still looks as good as new, and consistently knocks the ball in the hole, costing me skins and $$$! Love the Scotty!

That Birchwood Casey Gun & Reel cloth works wonders... and it's only like $6.

P.S.- The #2 is more suited for a gated stroke, and the plumbers neck #3 is a more face balanced... still good for a gate stroke, but better for those (like me) with a less pronounced gate.
