RG3 tears LCL and ACL

My whole thing is, RG3 said he's fine. Didn't let the doctors look at it at all. When your franchise QB says he's fine, you let him play. Let's say Shanny pulls him and RG3 says that he told him he was fine and they lose with the back-up in. Now Shanahan has to be fired. Sorry, but I trust my guys when they tell me they're okay. Either way, it was a tough spot for Shanahan.

[size=5][sub]I'm not bashing Shanahan here at al because he has to go on what he is told. But after that TD it seemed to me to be pretty obvious he was hurting (I wonder if that was when he actually tore it?), and if loese his mobility, much of his threat is gone. And their offense really stagnated from that point on. So even if he says he's fine health wise, he wasn't fine performance wise. I don't know, like someone said earlier, really tough spot for Shanahan.[/sub]

[sub]On a somewhat related note, I had ACL replacement with a donor graft in Sept of 2010 and was back on the basketball court by early summer, right at eight monhs (and I'm an old bastxxx, don't heal as well or as quickly any more), if he has the surgery now I would see him back for the start of the season. I'm sure he'll rehab like a maniac. Hope it goes well for him, sure seems like a good kid.[/sub][/size]

I am aware that American Football is a full contact sport, but it always seems to me that the standard medical approaches to knee ligament injuries seem to be radically different in the US and Europe. European football (soccer) players or downhill skiers (incredible forces are at work in this sport) always come back from injuries like this in four to six months, at most.
Whenever I read about something like this when it happens to US athletes, the talk is about "missing next season". Is there somebody on this board who is an orthopedic surgeon and who can eleborate on these differences?
And back to topic: Once he was seriously limping whenever he tried to run himself and was about 1/4 of his usual speed, he should have been taken out, simply because at that time, he was not "RGIII" anyway, so what good does it do to let him play on, when he probably is not the better and more versatile player than his back-up.
And I am also surprised that nobody but bubbagump mentioned the terrible turf conditions, which also might well have played a part on the play when he finally went down.

I see a gap. There definitely is a gap.

According to RG3, the injury happened the play before the one in which he went down.

I can't blame the turf either. Yeah, that field was terrible, but I'm not saying its the culprit. Players have played on much worse without getting injured.

I talked to one of Dr Andrew's former partners who is an orthopedic surgeon here in DC who saw the MRI yesterday and he said that the difference with RG3's injury is that one of the screws from his previous repair was loosened and compromised the bone where the ACL attaches ...... Also they will be using a cadaver tendon graph for this operation so he will be out for at least possibly 9 months but more like 12.
This is much different then AP's or Forte's injuries.

All the reports I've read says they used the patella graph from his left knee (uninjured knee). It's highly unlikely that they would use a cadaver tendon graph on such a young person, let alone a professional athlete.

Heck, it's been a long time since the Skins were even in the playoffs. So as a Skins fan, getting in was an accomplishment since everyone, including me, thought this team would only be 7-9 at best.

On the bright side, at least we have a decent back-up in Captain Kirk. Or we could go to the other RGIII.
