Shaft help: considering black tie 7m3

Hey so my beloved whiteboard 73x in my superdeep 8.5 snapped a few days ago and am in the market to replace it. Heard some great things about the ozik black tie (want something low launching and low spin but feels like my whiteboard). SS is mid 120's, ball speed low-mid 180's, create ALOT of lag, spin is around 2600-2700 with the whiteboard 73x tipped .5 inches. Looking at their website looks like a xx 7m3 would fit for me. Anyone have any experience, comments, or suggestions?

Thanks

Evan

I currently game the black tie 7m3 in an x flex.. My swing speed is not as strong as yours (112), but I have yet to find a shaft in terms of sheer performance as far as launch and spin that compares to this shaft.

Shafts I have:

Tour Issue Aldila Rip NV 65 X
Tour Issue Aldila Rip VS Proto 60 X
Tour Issue Aldila Rip Phenom NL Tour X
Aldila Trinity 65 X
Tour Issue Project X 7A3
Tour Issue Miyazaki kusala 72X
Fujikura Speeder 757 Tour Spec X

In my experience the only shaft that performs similar to the Black Tie 7m3 (X-flex) is the Speeder 757. All of the shafts I've listed perform well, and are for the most part, are low launching lower spinning rated shafts. I have just found the 7m3 has performed best for me.

I'm sure there are others that can aid in your search for the ideal shaft around here somewhere..

You have a fair amount of shafts there. I would like to see how the 7M3 compares to the trinity, I have a 112 SS and would have love to try the 7m3 in x flex. They only had a stiff flex in the 7m3 on the fitting and the trinity in x was ok.

The 7m3 in x flex is another beast entirely than the trinity IMO. The launch I produced with the two are nothing alike. The 7m3 is, to me, the epitome of low launch low spin for my swing profile. The trinity produced more of a mid-low trajectory (emphasis on mid) which still performed well but just didn't maintain that piercing trajectory that I was after.

I believe Matrix identifies the 7M3 as a mid-butt stiffness, whereas MRC identifies the Whiteboard as a softer butt section. I think what you will notice most differently about the 7M3 vs. the WB is that the 7M3 feels must stiffer at the hands, at least it does to me. I prefer that, but it might be a different feedback for you coming from the WB.

Other than that, it's an awesome shaft. Low/Low, and can pretty much handle everything you throw at it.

i currently play a Callaway Razr Fit Driver with an 8.5 head and a Graphite Design Tour AD DI 7X shaft. I like it alot but I miss having the House Of Forged Great White Shaft I used to play in my old Titleist Driver. Ive been playing golf for 4 1/2 years now and my longest drive ever was on the 18th hole at Bowes Creek in Elgin, IL. It was 375 yds in the fairway GPS verified. I like the combo alot but I wonder if I can be more consistent and longer if I go with a Matrix HD6 or House Of Forged Great White Shaft.

I think House Of Forged is the leader in LD shafts but I always wondered which HOF shaft is used most.

I currently play the matrix black tie 7m3 in a XX flex. Its a very anti left shaft (for right handers). Its one of the lowest launching shafts I have tried. The only shaft comparable would be the fujikura motore speeder tour spec 7.2 x. The speeder has better feel but a tad bit more spin for my swing. I have an avg SS of 120 and im a high launch hitter. You can also check out the miyazaki kusala black 83x if you like heavier shafts. I have one in my 3 wood and its a beast!!!

Just ordered this shaft in an x-flex. SS roughly 110. Am I biting off more than I can chew? I hear some guys cant get this thing off the ground. Previous shaft was Aldila RIP Alpha 70 (I think it's 72-75g) in stiff. Can anyone compare these so I know what I'm in for??
I think at around the 110 mark you will be ok. I am around the 115 and have had 2 rounds with the 7M3 in x flex and it is been a great match up. The only down side is that at 110 ss you will have to be on as this is a serious shaft and a whiff swing will net some bad results. I think this shaft is for the guys with a strong aggressive transition and a ss of 110 or more. so my guess is that you will be fine with it but you will have to ensure you make a good strong pass at the ball.

Yeah the X worked out wonderfully for me in this driver. It is such a great fit that I just ordered the Razr Fit Xtreme 3 wood in an X as well. This is pretty crazy cuz I already own the 913f and I'm generally not a club ho at all.. I'll compare them but I already feel like I'll be selling the 913. I really like the 913 but this driver with this shaft made me HAVE to try the fairway.

I have two Matrix Black Tie 7M3 shafts (both S-flex) .... one is installed at 44.75" playing length in a 9.5* TM SLDR driver (set to 10* loft and two notches to the "fade" side for the sliding sole weight); the second is in my RAZR Fit Xtreme (10.5*, 45" playing length, set to 1.5* open face angle). I am a "hitter", with a quick tempo and a 105-106 MPH clubhead speed with the driver. My nemesis is the hook with my driver, and the combination of the Black Tie 7M3 with open face angle and/or "fade" setting has been a godsend for me! The only shafts that come close to the performance that I get with the Black Tie 7M3 Stiff are Fujikura's FUEL 70-S and the GD Tour AD-BB (however, I have an S/R flex in this shaft, and I should have gone with the full S-flex). I am getting a consistent 270-285 yards (carry + roll) with the SLDR/Black Tie combo, which is my current "gamer", and I have shot two of my lowest scores in more than 7 years since playing this driver!

XX is a tough one to come by in a pull. Everywhere I see it is only new, but I am not one to spend $300+ on a shaft. I did hit one when it first came out and it was incredible. My SS is right there with you. Nice low piercing flight. Was hoping I could find either 7m3 or better an 8m3 XX pull by now. Still nothing.

Just put one in my XHP. I had it it my head that it was too stiff for me, but it plays only a hair stiffer than the label. Great shaft. Rainbow flight all day long.

I don't know if you will find a shaft like that in a playing length shaft. Obviously you can get there by trimming but for example a black tie from what I've seen is usually 280ish for an X flex. To get to 300cpm you'd have to take off roughly another 2" from the tip to get it around there.

Why not take a LD length driver say a Black Ops 4x LD shaft that is like 295 CPM and butt trim it to length

Give Robert Kent a call at HOF. You won't pay near what the shaft is listed at if you buy direct and it is flat out the best shaft I've ever played. Swing speed is similar to yours.

How does the 7m3 black tie X stiff compare with Grafalloy Bimatrix X flex? Which ones feels more stout, soft, whippy and stable?
