Clayton Stoker Handmade Putter

Recommended Posts

I know that i have not posted on here for a very long time but i have not disappeared. Been busy applying for colleges and scholarships and other schoolwork which is my first priority at this point. These two putters were made 100% by myself just to clear up any confusion about my past work. Finish was done by Black Oxide Services. First putter has aquamarine finish and the second has oil can

Since you posted photos, I assume you are looking for feedback.

I will say this....very good early effort. While these are a bit too utilitarian-looking, and would benefit greatly from some softer lines and more flow from one section to the other (See Cameron putters), you clearly are off to a good start.

Everyone talks about performance, but let's be honest....the best-selling putters are the best looking. You can work on face-milling or insert technology to create the good roll you need for performance, but you need to make a putter beautiful first (with proper balance of course).

Soften this puppy up and make the lines more graceful, and you will be on your way to a putter that people will pay for. Look at the timeless designs from Piretti, Betti and Cameron of course, for guidance on how to make a putter look great.

Just my opinion. Keep up the good work. :good:

Way better than I could do. Nice work. Yes, softening lines would be traditional, but you are trying to be your own designer. Therefore, my only advise would be to round the sole a bit more so the putter doesn't dig into the green on some putts. If it feels good and makes putts, you'll be able to sell them.

Have you shafted them up and putted with either of these two? How does the ball roll? What is the head weight? Any face pics?

I'd avoid inserts - they change feel with temp swings. Go with different mill depths and angles to get different feels.

Absolutely correct. Go with your own designs and style. My point was simply that whatever style/design you go with, make it look flawless and refined.

I'm sure you know what I mean.

Thank you for your comments. I shafted these two up and the first one is around 360 and the bottle is around 345. The metal I use(12L14) is some of the softest carbon steel on the market and is the only metal I am able to work with on my small milling machine. This was made not using CNC so it is difficult to make a putter similiar to one cameron and bettinardi make since little handwork is invoked in the putter. I will get some more pics up that show the putters from some different views. Unfortunately, at this time I am not able to do inserts in my putter without the use of CNC.

Clayton they look great, I am on with my own project at the moment and appreciate how much time and skill it takes to machine billets of carbon steel on a hand mini mill!

Just a quick question though, who did your neck welding? Did you do it yourself? If so what equipment did you use? MIG/TIG/ARC?

Keep up the good work!

These look very cool, and you can tell some serious time was put into them. Any pics of the faces? Are they milled?
