s300 vs KBS Tour and Ctaper

I am looking to buy Mizuno JPX 825 Pro irons and tried the S300 shafts on an indoor launch monitor and was very pleased with the results. My top two results were the Mizunos and the X Hot Pro off the Project X shafts and prefer the Mizunos because although they were about 3 shorter than the xhots the trajectory was almost 5 yards lower which for me is very important since I tend to elevate the ball too much.

 

I have been looking around for used sets and have found many sets shafted with both KBS Tour and KBS CTaper and was wondering if any of my fellow wrx members can offer any advise on the KBS shafts and if they should perform similar to the S300 or if they are more similar to Project X. Does anyone know the weight on each of these shafts?

To me the weight of these shafts is noticeably different, with PX lightest, then KBS Tour and lastly DG and C-Taper the heaviest. In my opinion, the weight difference is more important than the ball flight difference.

Thanks for the link. The weight difference is 3 grams between the DG and the C Tapers. The spin rate is also lower on the C Tapers. Is 3 grams relevant? Do you think the lower spin rate is also something I should pay attention to? I tend to pick the ball and not hit down on my swing and therefore hit the ball too high.

The weight has an effect, but it's mainly the low launch/spin that sets the C Taper apart. The DGs are great shafts that launch lower and spin more, and I recently switched to the KBS which have been a much better fit. Since I switched to the X ss'd, they're still 130g, but are stiffer and launch a little higher (exactly what I wanted).

Yeah KBS Tour are a higher flighted shaft then the C-Tapered and DG S300's.

Naw, 3 grams is not significant. But 10 grams to KBS Tour is.

KBS C-Taper and KBS Tour weigh the same...

R+ : 115
S: 120
S+ : 125
X: 130

X100 and S300 weigh the same at 130.

So when comparing S300 to same flex KBS Tour/CTaper the weight differance is 10 grams. Where are you seeing C Taper is heavier?

How do these compare with ball flight Ctaper vs S300's.

I am using S300's and feel like they spin a bit too much at times and am getting some high launch angles as of late.

I replaced my DG S300's in my 710 Ap2's with some KBS tour stiff shafts after hearing all the hype on wrx. That experiment only lasted a few months and I just recently went back to my DGS300's. I hated the weighting/counter balance feel of the KBS. Also I disliked feeling the shaft kick so much at impact. I had both sets SW at D2 and although the KBS are spec'd lighter they actually felt heavier to swing (if that makes sense). It also felt like there was a weight just below the grip on the KBS and I could not feel the club head during the swing. Some people love them, I guess they are not for me.

I am so glad I saw that chart!!!. I have used Dynamic Gold iron shafts for almost 15 years. Tried a few other shafts ( Project X flighted, KBS Tour 90) and these flat like garbage compared to DG S300. Not being the Ho that I am, I sways demo different irons on visits to the golf shop. Only thing I like that is not DG is the KBS C-Tapers. Very pleased to see they have very similar profiles. Certainly make these a good option if I wanted to tinker.

I just recently switched from DG S300's to PX flighted 6.0's to C-Tapers. Not looking back. The c-tapers r less harsh, hold the line very well and offer a nice penetrating ball flight. It took me a couple rounds to get used to the 5 gram difference in weight from the PX, but I like them so much, I am reshafting my vokey wedges from s300's to the c-tapers. I thought the KBS tours were too high a ball flight for me. i was going to put the KBS Tours in my wedges, but didn't like the ball flight. The c-tapers are really nice, try out all three and see what results you like as far as ball flight, consistency and feel.
