NBC HD?

Well i live 25 miles from Buffalo ny, and the local station has been showing all the area closings which make the screen even small on my 50" TV. So my HD looks like :)

the broadcast here wasn't is hd it was on the hd channel but wasn't hd

Just because you can get the stuff on the HD channel doens't mean it's in HD.

This broadcast was in HD they just didn't have very many HD cameras. Pretty Disappointing.

Strangley enough, my on screen guide said it wasn't in HD, however if you read NBC's site.....

I thought it looked pretty good yesterday on my Samsung DLP. I not trying to be a smart A-- but does everyone realize you need and HD TV as well as a way of receiving the signal before you can tell any differerence in the picture quality?

I thought some of it (16) was certainly in HD.

 

When people say it didn't look HD, it still was formatted in 16:9, but I think they were using wireless HD cameras, which certainly don't look as good as the typical HD cameras.

I'm sure NBC couldn't have all HD camera out on the course. And like shook23 said, they still shot the whole thing in 16:9 format not just in HD format.

 

But if you switch from HD to just regular air signal you'll see big difference...

On a side note, did I see an ad yesterday during the Superbowl that announced the USA network would still have the Thursday and Friday rounds of "The Masters"?

 

If so, did "The Masters" board of trustees not allow TGC to air the tourney this year and stick with USA/CBS?

GC only has the PGA Tour owned events. The majors are not owned by the PGA Tour. GC will not have Thursday/Friday coverage of any of the four majors.

NBC coverage was in HD, but it was poor, and only a few cameras were HD. The down on the course camera shots from behind the player were in SD and looked awful. It made me long for CBS coverage.

Correct. So, those of use that got Thursday/Friday simulcast coverage in HD last year should get it again.

Watching it now on Saturday, looks good to me. The majority of cameras are HD.

Only the fixed position cameras behind the greens are HD.

 

All of the hand-held cameras are SD....which means that the majority of full shots played, are you guessed it, in beautiful SD.

 

Typical NBC BS.

right2left got it right, handhelds are SD which has everyone on the golf and HDTV forums bitching up a storm. By the reaction, you'd think they were broadcasting in B&W. Is it great, no...but considering where we were a few years ago - it's a step in the right direction. It's golf on TV...nothing to lose any sleep over...

The kicker is that you can get a consumer level HD cam at Best Buy.

 

You'd think a big network like NBC could use a pro level HD handheld cam.

 

 

 

Perhaps a bandwidth issue for now on the receiving side?

I've noticed the same thing over the past few weeks and so did a co worker. There is probably two things going on, upscaling for one. You can tell if it's being filmed in SD and upscaled to HD (at least 720p) if it gets grainy during quick movements.

The second thing is if you are watching over satellite, compression is the culprit for some of the fuzziness.

nbc hd is terrible. it seems that less than half of the cameras are hd. even when it is hd the picture quality si not good. cbs, espn, abc, etc., all have better hd than nbc.

NBC just doesn't have as many HD cameras as ABC/ESPN or CBS. NBC will setup all of their HD cameras at greens so you'll notice the HD picture when players are around the green. I don't believe NBC uses any HD cameras for on the course shots when they follow players. Hopefully they'll upgrade for next season. But right now I dread when NBC has golf coverage for the week.

They have been like this all season, the fixed NBC cameras are all HD whereas the portable cameras are all SD. Whereas the ABC and CBS coverage seems to be 100% HD cameras. Funny you would like NBC could afford to upgrade their cameras.

It not only looks terrible... it sounds terrible. What is up with that inanely slow release on the compressor that kicks in when the ball is struck. Doesn't anyone listen to their broadcasts? This has been going on for months.

 

NBC clearly knows they are in last place, and continue to act like it. Their HD coverage, especially in sports, has been the slowest to come online of all of the networks.

Agreed, it's awful. Watched the Samsung the last 2 days on NBC and picture quality was terrible. I have a Misubishi HD DLP and the picture was really pixilated on all the cameras. GC HD, CBS and all the other HD stations are much better.
