CommonGround or RedHawk Ridge

North Texas

Recommended Posts

Playing golf next week during Solheim Cup. Have tee times at Arrowhead on Friday and Omni Interlocken on Sunday. Need a place to play on Thursday and we're looking at RedHawk Ridge or CommonGround. Give me feedback on which of these you recommend and why. Or recommend somewhere better for under a $100. Thanks.

Forgot to ask if getting the caddy at CommonGround is worth it?

I've actually never played CommonGround, but all of my friends rave about it. You don't hear people talk about Red Hawk Ridge like that. RHR is okay, perhaps a tad overpriced.

It depends on what you are looking for. CommonGround is a much more "traditional" course with traditional layout. There are no houses on the course, and is actually pretty long from the tips. The Caddies are "free", in that they are kids that have their rates payed for through a grant, you only tip them if you feel compelled, but they will still be payed their fare. I suggest it if you want to walk. Its an extra set of eyes on the ball, know the course decently well, and its usually "underprivileged" kids that are there to learn the game and are working toward a scholarship, so if you were gonna take a cart, why not throw a kid a $20 spot at the end of the round and help them out a bit. RHR is a much more residential course built by Jim Engh. A lot of the greens will have multiple and severe tiers, the fairways are somewhat bowled, so you have to hit a pretty bad shot to miss fairways and things tend to bounce back in them. Most holes have houses on them, not really in play, but they are cookie cutter suburban houses. My pick would totally be CommonGround with a caddy. Its a great course, usually in really good condition and easy to walk.

Agree with the above. Both courses are fun, but CommonGround would be my first choice of the two. If you want a fun Jim Engh design, I like Fossil Trace more than Red Hawk Ridge.
