ROBOPTI - In Real Life

So i'm at the range last night swinging the new driver, the honeymoon phase has quickly passed, and in my frustration i notice the guy next to me is hammering balls. Not just hitting 280 - 300 but carrying them over the back fence of the range that is about 350. AND HE ISNT EVEN SWINGING THAT HARD.

 

I try to hide my wide eyed look of amazement and i just keep my mouth shut and keep swinging. Then it happens, i notice the guy hitting next to him is trying out a few different irons trying to decide what to buy and Mr. Long Ball leans over and says something about "steel shafts are pretty hard to beat, even in a driver..." i look up and and realize this has the be only guy in NOLA that is hitting over the fence, puts steel in drivers and has a pink cobra bag. then it clicks, its ROBOPTI.

 

So, at the risk of sounding like a golf nerd, i ask the guy if he is the infamous mad scientist ROBOPTI. And sure enough, it's him.

 

I just have to let the wrx community know this guy is awesome, nice friendly guy with lots of great advice to give. Probably talked to him for a good hour about golf and some of his projects. And yes, he really does hit the ball 350, with his gamer, straight. I can only imagine how far he could hit a driver built for pure distance.

 

Just to prove that he is real and i'm not making this up, i have included a pic that any ROBOPTI fan should recognize.

I believe you. He called me out of the blue one time when he heard I was dealing with vertigo. We talked for a while about clubs, too. ROBO is awesome. Would love to play a round of golf with him.

WAY COOL !!!!!!!!!! to meet you too ;) .... That was fun. And I was killing the ball last night. P-Star / aka J13 / aka Wrx BFF got a swing thought in my head to let my hands start first (dropping in the slot) instead of hips - and it FREAKING WORKED. Man that help you to get the club coming down the line from the inside

 

I have to say in fairness - The fence is 317 ( lasered) from where I was standing - so to get over the top of it ... 320-322 maybe - but I knocked quite a few out - G25 / Veylix is a BEAST !!!!!!!!!

 

Bro ... As promised ... I will bring some unobtainium next time I show up. SO COOL to meet Wrx'rs in person. And gang - DL is a super cool guy as well !!!

Thats awesome! I had a very similar experience about 6 yrs. There was a local guy with a very nice bag setup so I am the range beating balls and I see this guy with a set matching this local guys. So I sent him a note asking him "Was that you 2 bays over from me?" He wrote back it was him and to come say hi the next time I see him. I saw him about 2-3 weeks later and introduced myself to him. We became friendly, played a few times together, even played together on my bachelor party in Vegas, he was there on a different bachelor party trip with another WRX/BSG'r (this was 6 yrs ago). So my group met up with his group and we played at Lake Las Vegas together.

The driver in my bag I bought from him. Haven't seen him in a little while due to lifestyle differences and my divorce last year.

LOL! he has better taste then that! Sad to say but my desire to want to golf/do things with the guys was a MAJOR issue in the marriage and we argued ALL the time about it. So when we split 2 yrs ago, I increased my golfing by 47% that year! LOL

Thats the plan. I am a 7%'r right now so no golf for me right now!. I should quantify the 47% was playing 11 times up from 7 the year before! LOL

I don't want to mention his name without his permission, but there's a regular member on here that was divorced (I believe it was this year) and he is playing more golf than ever, at lest 36 holes every weekend, sometimes 54, playing or practicing several nights a week. I think his percentage went up about 2000%...LOL
