Non-conforming driver recommendations?

The game of Golf for the recreational player is about enjoying the game.

So many ignorant people and responses here.... mind your own business and game.

You weren't asked for your opinion, it was some help with non conforming drivers.

OP, good luck with finding a driver that will help you enjoy the game more for many years to come.

OP once again:

Thanks very much for your intelligent reply. Thanks also to "freddyottawa", "j13", and "Mizzyman".
I'm abit surprised that some are hijacking this thread, and turning it to such a negative theme about cheating. I'd totally expect that on GEA, but not here.
Now that some have had their say, I'd like to bring this thread back to the original post. I won't keep defending against the "cheating" accusations, as I know where that will continue to go.
So saying that, any other recommendations?

You might try the original jbeam 435 and the new Trpx driver. The Jbeam is touted on being the longest of all JDM heads and they do have a hi cor version of it also.

there's to much that goes into distance that's unique to your swing but I do believe there are a couple that are head and shoulders above the rest. the Ryoma special tuning and the jBEAM 435 Hi. I liked the geotech rf700 and I got some distance gains but overall the special tuning was much more forgiving. another factor to consider is your current ball flight. I have found non conforming heads to have slightly higher launch and more spin. I get much more distance into the wind out of my conforming af103 than the special tuning....

I think the shaft you choose is going to be very important also. So don't cut yourself short there.

Both are good answers

IMO, with the right shaft and head, with your swing speed your gain will avg. around 7-10 yards.

Another consideration to be concerned with regarding playing a non-conforming driver: we have tons of A-B-C-D and other types of team events at our club, as do most clubs. Using these drivers could DQ your team or, at the very least, cause some discomfort to your teammates. I played in a scramble once with a guy who had 19 clubs in his bag, different putters and wedges for every situation, most all of which he used to help us "win". I gave my signed Fred Couples poster that we "won" to a kid in the parking lot who was admiring it because I couldn't take it home and put it up in good conscience. I probably would have turned us in but it wasn't my money that was donated.

So it's not just "you" who is potentially affected.

consider buying a used j beam 435 or 425 - probably 10-10.5 degree. J Beams are low launch, low spin heads. They have 3 weight ports and different weights are available for tuning. These heads need shaft fitting to optimize distance and forgiveness as well weighting fitting. By buying a used j beam and used jdm shaft, you can give it a try. If it does not work out, you can probably resell without taking a bath.

  • 2 weeks later...

Those who use non-conforming clubs shall rot in hell with Hitler and bin Laden.... Oh wait... It's golf and you should use whatever makes you happy outside of competition.

Otherwise, there are no Tee it Forward, Jack or Susie... Bring your skirt and broken hip back to the Championship Tees with Henry the Weekend Warrior Hacker and Mr High and Mighty Scratch Guy... It's going to be a long day. But it's about integrity. I don't care if you can't reach the fairway with your 3rd shot. Bobby Jones is rolling over in his grave with "clean lift and place".... "The rules say play it as it lies, Shooter!"

Let's all hug it out and get back to answering the question instead of all having to explain integrity when the game wouldn't allow a black person to play it for such a long time. But now has no problem letting one play who has bagged more strippers and hookers than Charlie Sheen, and golf has no problem with it. I guess integrity that people speak of only counts sometimes inside the ropes.

Its a game until it's for money or competition. I've played the TM R5 Max with an Aerotech Steelfiber ss65. It was a great driver but I didn't see any distance gains over my current set up or the R9 I had right after it. It would be fun to see if it would actually benefit me as it's fun to feel like a bomber sometimes. I'd just rather get it in the short grass to score.

I am new to this site so to speak but I am going to add my 2 cents anyhow. Who gives a hoot in hell if he wants to play non conforming equipment or not? The man asked a legimite question about equipment not for judgements.
That being said I do have one alternative that was not mentioned. I have seen several advertisements for companies that will shave down the face of a conforming driver to give it more trampoline effect. You may want to take one of your favorite drivers and have that conversion done. I do not know the cost or the durability factor of that modification just merely offering a suggestion. Hope I can be of help.
By the way all of you USGA police I personally play CONFORMING equipment and could care less what someone else plays if it helps them in whatever way enjoy and stay in the game!!!

I would recommend getting something similar to what I did if your are losing distance due to spin (3500 rpm), and low launch (10.5). I got the 10.5 jBeam 435 with TRPX X-Concept X-flex. I have been toying with shafts to bring up launch but would losing distance because the higher launch shafts also created lots of spin. What worked for me was to increase the loft and get a low spinning shaft. The X-Concept spins lower than any shaft I've tried especially considering a 10.5 degree loft. The new numbers are 13 deg. launch and 2600 rpm. I was very detailed with tsg to get my fitting correct and couldn't be happier with the results. My misses are finding the fairway and people are asking to look at the driver to prove it's conforming.
