Depending on the wind, pin placement, and whichever tees we'd chosen that hole, I've hit 1/2 lob wedge to 3/4 gap/sand wedge. It *is* links golf though, so many different ways to make it work. Last time I was there, a guy in my group bladed a wedge (of some sort) hard! The ball went straight into the frontside of the big hill (that protects the green and hides the flag) like a laser. It pops up high, lands on the backside of the same hill, and (somehow?!) rolls out to a couple feet. He made the putt, and a ridiculous birdie.

Guess I get to be the bad-guy, Been taking a buddies trip to Bandon every Feb for 11 years. I keep going back cause I love the place. Played Preserve last year, doubt we'll play it again this year. I'd rather play Shorty's at the practice center, but it's been closed for play the last few years when we've been there. I'd have rather seen Preserve made a 9 hole track with some longer holes. To each his own.

I mostly agree with Swingem. Played the Preserve twice in Dec 2012 at $100 per round and enjoyed it.

This past month did not play the Preserve even though the rate is presently $50. I would rather pay $100 in the winter for one of the main courses. But if you only had 2.5 hrs, the Preserve is a decent option.

[The Preserve is a viable choice for seniors. They can take a few clubs and have a blast without the need for a caddie or a 5 hr walk.]

Looks very nice to be sure, but $100 and nothing longer than 135yds? I'll take any one of the short courses on the RTJ Golf Trail (at roughly $23) over that any day of the week.
