Adapter Sleeve Problem

Had my 1st club come back in 30 years!!! Broken shaft in Cleveland driver. Got new adapter from Billy Bob's, New shaft, glued er all up and 3 months later the adapter has come loose from the shaft. Took it apart and there was almost no glue on the inside of the adapter. So I took sanding tool and really roughed up the inside of the adapter and re glued and will see what happens?? My question is: Should we as a matter of course rough up the inside of these aluminum adapters.? I've just about totally retired and don't have a lot of experience with these adapters as most of my work was before they got in vogue. This one had some machined grooves in the inside but I never thought of abrading it too. help an old guy out here !! Thanks, OBTW, My first post here so be merciful!!

i always rough up the inside of adapters, new, used, doesn't matter. i want 'bite' as much as possible.

Absolutely. I use 150 grit rolled to fit snug and twist as will as slide in and out. clean with compressed air. I personally don't like solvent in the hosel unless it can't be avoided.

I am more of the thought that the adapter hosel either had some paint or something in it that prevented the epoxy from bonding. Sure, it's never a bad idea to rough it up a bit but the epoxy should still be able to hang on if it's clean from the manufacturer.

Yeah, I got thinking, I never abrade the inside of a new normal hosel. It's no big deal to do, I've got those pre rolled sandpaper things that go on a mandrel and in my drill, just never occurred to me to do it. Thanks for feedback

Same, I used the hosel cleaning brushes from golf works
