anybody care to explain "spin-tilt" axis concept to me?

I have been fighting a hook my entire golf life. I am (mostly) on plane now and study my path/face incesently but am now wondering if spin-tilt axis could be causing my draw bias. Any ideas or comments are welcomed.

is it strictly a bi-product of path and face angle?

Most of those who are susceptible to hooks have a face that is too far open to target coming into impact Things like path too right, face too open to path, handle coming in too high...etc.

As far as 'spin axis tilt' - first, understand in reality that a golf ball is solid and can only spin on one axis. It can NOT actually, truly, have sidespin and backspin at the same time.

It only has a certain rate of spin (usually measured in rpm) about one spin axis. That axis that the ball is spinning around can be perfectly horizontal relative to the ground, or tilted one way or the other. Perfectly horizontal tilt axis would be pure backspin.

But talking about your spin rate and an angle of spin axis tilt is not that easy to get an easy feel for how 'bad' or how far from the ideal straight shot you are.... the easier way to look at it is to convert the actual total spin rate and tilt angle vector INTO side and backspin numbers.

Now that's fine - they're easy to use and get a feel for, but that is not really what the ball is doing.

By matching face and path.

Play a ball with no dimples. Don’t expect it too go very far though Caesar Featherie Dimpleless Golf Ball Reviewor zero out your swing on every swing - upside is you’d be the first person to ever do this but it’ll go straight every time.

or don’t eliminate it but rather learn a swing that produces repeatable, controllable spin axis - either a fade or a draw. Oh my, Monte - there you go spilling the beans again.

A ball hit with the clubface at a perfect right angle to the target line with the swing path on perfect plane with the target line will have no side spin. If your swing is on a in to out path from your target line but still with square club face contact to your target line (club face closed to your path) your ball will start out straight then curve(spin) to the left(draw/hook). A out to in swing path with square to your target line contact(club face open to your swing path) will impart left to right side spin to your ball(fade/slice). The spin axis is virtually never straight up and down as hitting the ball below the center line will create a tilted spin axis. Hitting downward or even upward will effect the axis angle.

it causes all curvature of the ball, so yes it is causing your hook....

the ball curves because its spinning. if it's a straight axis then it will curve up. if its tilted it will curve both up and to the side of the tilt.
