Thoughts on the Stroke Lab Ten and Bird of Prey?

Just looking to see who’s gaming these putters and what you like/dislike about them?

Tried em for the first time a few weeks ago and I keep coming back for more, now I’m just debating between the two, love the feel and weighting of the bird of prey but it’s a little too big for my liking so I’m leaning towards the Ten. Any input is greatly appreciated!

Is that true ?

There's a correlation between MOI and face rotation ?

I thought MOI was in a word “stability”. I really don’t believe there is a relationship between MOI and not allowing the face to open/close. It’s the hosel design that creates toe hang/toe flow. And it’s the movement of weight to the extreme perimeter that creates MOI. The marriage of toe flow and high MOI is what makes the Spider/Spider X slant neck designs so popular.

It may be more that high MOI designs have a more rearward center of gravity. It’s the reason a lot of these designs lead to pushes for people. Odyssey has talked a lot about how they try to get the cog more forward because they see too many pushes when it’s really far back. If you google the interviews they did for the Indy putter they talk about it a lot.

Maybe I misunderstood your first post. I read it as resisting the face opening and closing but i see now you MAy have meant "after impact" with which I would agree.

But I understand the MOI measurement to be one of "forgiveness" on off center hits.

A slant neck is a putter with toe hang and toe hang putters generally suit a "slight arc" type of stroke whereas a single or double bend putter often (not always) gives one a face balanced putter, generally more suitable for a straight back straight through stroke.

But, for example, the Spider-X is one that has both types and I don't see or feel any noticeable difference in forgiveness. I wonder if their MOI measurement is the same ?

I believe MOI is a measurement of "resistance to twisting so stability certainly is a trait of MOI. Maybe forgiveness is just another way of saying the same thing ?

And yes, I'd agree. As mentioned above, I don't think there's a relationship between forgiveness and toe hang/attachment of the shaft to the club, or at least not a discernible one - but I could be wrong.

I putted this one in the store and love the feel and balance. Easy to line up too...

I understand MOI to be the amount of energy retained across the face at impact. Impacts further away from the sweet spot will see less energy loss in higher MOI putters, less distance loss. I would think that less twisting would add to MOI (no vacancies at Holiday Inn Express last night), As would moving COG and mass further from the center.

All a guess....

OP, do you not like the BoP on its own or only when comparing it to the 10 does it seem too big to you? Seems like you get better results with BoP, maybe just mess with it for a while and see if you start to acclimate?

Also, some have said there are additional variation of these on the way, although I don't know if that means different hosels, or just different alignment markings (ie, triple track).

MOI is a measurement of how much force (torque) is needed to cause a deflection about an axis.

Perimeter weighting is one way to increase MOI. Weight back is another. Back and to the sides like a lot of today's squarish mallets does it even more.

Where some of the confusion comes is "which axis"?

There is the axis of the center of the club face. When hit off center, higher MOI will tend to keep the putter face from deflecting.

Then there is the player's tendency to add rotation to the head as part of the stroke. Depending on the hosel design, this can be the same axis as above if the shaft is aligned to the center of the head, or it can be off of that axis by varying degrees and make it easier to 'release' the club.

Yeah I like the balance and stability of the BOP but I like the look at address of the Ten. I went back to the shop and tried them both again, leaning towards the Ten just because it fits my Stroke a little better with the slant neck but I’m still torn between the two

I played with a ten today. Really liked it. Felt good and rolled well. Compared it to a spider X which I thought felt rough compared to the ten. I’m sure properly fit putter VS. Properly fit putter would be a different story, but my initial impression of the spider X was wholly unimpressive.

my I have a center shafted Betti 6.0 innovai that blows both away though. Caveat: I am biased.
