MP-54, best GI MP iron, try it.

I gamed a Mizuno MP-54 set for over a year, 3-pw dg s300. Loved those irons, felt great, nice high ball flight, etc. In July I got a set of MP-32s and in September a set of MP-20s, so my 54s were benched for no other reason but I wanted a different look.

Last week I brought my 54s to my club guy to have lie angle adjusted 1° flat and make the 3, 4 and 5 irons 1° stronger. I also had new gp mmc grips installed. Today I picked them up and got a bucket of balls. Wow, these irons are so forgiving, I literally flushed every shot....draw, fade, low high, I could execute every shot.

MP-54s are a game improvement MP iron in one. The feel is soft, soft as any other MP iron. I still love my MP-20s, but going to throw the 54's in the bag tomorrow. I believe playing the 32s and 20s for the past 6 months have made me a better ball striker, the 54s feel more like a JPX forged iron in size and forgiveness.

Glad you are enjoying them again. I guess it is all about perspective. If you have played blades or compact irons before the MP-54 then yeah, the MP-54s might seem easier to play. But the MP-54s are definitely not a GI iron in my book. Are they forgiving compared to some other MP offerings? Yes. Are they forgiving compared to basic GI irons from Callaway and PING? It's not even close IMO. But I do think they are a great "players" iron for someone who wants to move from a true GI iron into the "players iron" category.

Yeah, not a true game improvement iron, but I do not think they are far from JPX forged type. I do enjoy playing blades and will continue to play my MP-20s, I was just shocked how easy the 54s were to hit. This why I never sell my irons, I have MP-54s, 32s and 20s, they all offer something different. I play 3 times a week, so I can get bored looking at the same equipment.

I bought a new set of mp54 in the fall of last year and they were my only iron all of last year. I liked them quite a bit but not certain I love them. They feel good, they hit to reliable distances, and you can control trajectory but I'm just not sold after a season. I can't explain it. I'm a 10 and could probably use a little more help in my irons though. Currently looking at the cf16, xrpro, Apex pro now that they are very affordable to see if I can find that "it". May just bend the 54's strong in the long irons and weak in the short irons to play with distances and gaps. Don't know, I just want to find a set that I can settle on until the grooves wear out and I was hoping the 54's were it.

The only real knock I heard on the 54s is some found they spin too much and lose distance. So stronger/weaker lofts is the best way to dial them in. I think the 54s and 53s are great. Had both and kept the 53s because they launched lower but liked both on the course.

I thought the mp55s were a better iron all around. For me the 54s are the black sheep of the 50s line.

Currently gaming MP54s. Previously had JPX 825 Pro in my bag. I found the profile was similar at address, but the feel and turf interaction is better with the 54s.

The 825 Pros are good clubs. I'm shipping them up north to reside at my mom's house so I don't have to travel with my clubs. But there was definitely a "hotter" feel to the face at times (I absolutely crushed the 4i), which sometimes led to a "long and left" result.

I haven't lost much distance with the 54s (they are 1* weaker throughout the set), and the solid thump when clubface meets ball... well that's what keeps me coming back to this game.

OP here. I'm currently back playing MP-54s right now. Was playing my MP-20 set, but the 54s were better in the wet heavy dormant washed out turf here in the souteast.

I picked up a set of MP-53s here on BST to go with my MP-32s and so far I am loving the extra forgiveness in the longer irons. Great players iron in my opinion, Mizuno has so many great options to choose from over the years.

+1. I’ve got a set of MP53s that I have sometimes pondered selling or trading. And then I go play them again and remember how great they are. Not worth as much on the used market as they are to me.
