Taylormade irons badge repair

I’m hoping for some advice... I have Taylormade PSI irons which are now 3 and a half years old. The Taylormade metal badges / stickers on the back have started to come off. They are quite sharp and one actually sliced my finger open when taking it out my bag!

I contacted Taylormade but they advised that they don’t have spare replacement stickers to send me as the irons are now discontinued. As the irons are out of warranty they also won’t replace them, which is fair enough.

I could remove the stickers and glue as they come off but it looks a little unsightly with a void where the badges should be.

Any advice or ideas?

I'd remove the badges and clean the area underneath to match the surrounding muscle area. You'll likely get used to the new look in no time if they're ALL done (and won't if you leave some undone).

I'd either remove them or just throw some aluminum foil tape over them. It looks just like lead tape and it will only add a tiny amount of weight.

I am actually doing some badge reattachment at the moment as well and there are several options. The cheapest and easiest method IMO is to use some of the 3M "Very High Bond" adhesive transfer tapes. They are plenty strong enough and far easier to use than glue/epoxy. If you search "3M VHB F9473PC ADHESIVE TRANSFER DOUBLE STICK TAPE" on eBay you can find a seller that sells pre-cut strips that are perfect for iron badges and far cheaper than committing to buying an entire roll.

Remove the badges, either with heat or very slow prying (preferably both), thoroughly clean the cavities and badges of any adhesive residue and dirt, then just stick some of the transfer tape to the back of the badge, cut it to shape, then peel and stick! Should last as long as you. ?

They likely only weigh a gram or two, so they won't impact performance and the weight difference would only be noticed by the super sensitive.

Honestly they probably don't even weight a gram so it won't be noticeable at all.

FWIW for anybody interested, the badges themselves weigh 0.80 grams, plus some adhesive, call it a gram.

I cleaned up the 5 iron as best I could lightly by hand and its not pretty. The metal is obviously a different colour/finish and the initials “CN-“ are engraved into the head...? It’s just not a clean finish. I wish the void could all blend with the muscle surrounding it, but as its stands this is going to mess with my ‘golfers OCD’ staring at me in my bag...

My suggestion above will take care of the problem and cost you less than $10.

I don’t have all the badges - a couple got lost on golf courses and one or two are scratches or lightly dented from bag chatter and won’t go back on cleanly

Ah I didn't realize you had lost some, sorry about that.

If it were me, I'd probably try to find some thin sheet aluminum with an anodized or brushed finish, and use a Dremel to cut my own "badges.". Then stick them on with the 3m tape mentioned previously.

How about locating some carbon fiber-looking vinyl tape, and using a badge as a template to cut the tape to fit? I'm sure you could find some that matches the look of the larger badges.

Thanks guys. Both great ideas but I think I would be significantly overestimating my DIY skills to pull this off and make a good job of it!

I might just deal with the OCD of having these in the bag until I change the irons (which I now plan to do a whole lot sooner!!)

What’s under the PSI badge? Are they for looks or dampening? Might look good with the TaylorMade on and the PSI and surrounding piece off

I had some RSi2 irons that did the same thing. Just pulled and re-epoxied them and never had another issue.

What kind of epoxy did you use?

Any update on this? Wonder if spray painting the area in chrome / clear coat would be a good option.
