Adams MB2 - Refinish Work in Progress

Hey Guys

Thought I would share this as I refinish these. Been looking for a fun little project to work on.

Bought this Set of Adams MB2 Raw as they are one of my favorite looking blades out there.

Would normally soak in CLR then use my Scotch-Brite Wheel to finish but it's in Storage so I'll be doing these by hand.

Will update as they progress. Yes, I know it is Sacrilage to remove the Patina, but I want to start fresh with these.

Glad to see you’re still around Chris. You sold me a Machine putter a hundred years ago and it was a great stick. Looking forward to seeing how this project progresses, they really are a great looking set of irons.

I have a 3-GW set, but haven't thought about refinishing them. Mind you, they aren't that rusted up. Should be good to see how they look through the stages.

Quick Update. 45 45 Minutes in the CLR, then a good scrubbing with the Green Scratch Pad.

Still lots of work to go, but shows how fast you can make a difference if you just try.

If those come out 1/2 as good looking as they are in the before pic they'll be nice.

Hey Chris, glad to see you're still around and kicking.

I have used white vinegar to remove rust and it was very effective. How does it compare to CLR and is there any reason you couldn't use vinegar on golf clubs?

Very Good Question...… Simple reason.. I like that CLR Works so fast with little residue. It's all personal preference. I like how fast it works.

Another Reaason…... - I was out of Vinegar. LOL

Few life changes lately myself that not gonna mention here...let's just say appreciating good friends and the distraction this crazy game provides a bit more...lots of folks don't have it that lucky, so doing pretty well?

Okay..... So..After lots of Hand Buffing, Hand Scrubbing with the 3M I broke down and went to home depot and bought a new Grinder and Buffing Pads and Wire Wheel.

Here is Stage 2 after the buffing. Next up is the Fine Metal Brush Wheel to even everything out.

Cool thread look forward to seeing where you end up. I joined WRX as a 15 year old golf geek in 2006 and you answered my question about a tei3 long neck newport which was my first real putter that I saved for. Needless to say that sent me down a total gear nut rabbit hole for the next 15 years!!!

Okay. Quick sneak peak of the finished product. Didn’t want to bore you with the pics after wire wheel then buffing again. This is an experimental finish I’ve been wanting to try. Looks amazing in person. All in all. Lots more work than I planned on but it was fun so it was worth it.

Woah, cool! I always dug the look of those irons. Very cool in a utilitarian kind of way.

Some in hand pics before I put a coat of oil on them and crash for the night. 2:30 am here.

Was also changing the painful on some of my putters to see if the different colored sight lines work Better

What’s nice is, these are still Raw. No Coating or anything.

I didn’t want something I’d have to grind off or blast off if I didn’t like the way it cane out.

I’m sure they’re going to rust but now they will do it with me controlling it. Now everything is on hold until the Ferrules and Shafts arrive I’m thinking White or Blue Ferrules for these heads

Too sweet! Long time lurker-new poster here. I have MB2s myself but the PVD variant. Wish I would have held out for a raw version.

Does anyone know if the PVD and raw have a difference in feel?

Dude those are nice looking. What finish is that? Oil quenched torched?

I have a set of the original screwback MBs in black I would love to try that Finish on. Also how did you apply finish?

Let them soak in white vinegar or CLR for a little while, and that finish will come right off.

Ive got the CLR. Did you do a torched oil quench ? Looks like it from the pics? May have to give it a go with mine.

I just picked up a set (3-GW) of lefty MB2's. I also love the the finish you put on those and would like to hear more about that process. Great work.
