Miura TC-201 vs CB-1008

TC-201 has more perimeter weighting, especially in the long irons. The perimeter weighting progresses from long to short irons (the set in the pic is #4 - PW from left to right). That will make it less punishing on mishits. Feel is subjective but I think it‘s very much Miura-like. Ball speed is very good, I saw some high smash factor numbers in fittings, so distance is there.

Having owned CB1008 previously, they are very comparable with TC201 being ever so slightly larger in size by 0.1mm. Main difference would be the progressive design of the perimeter from P-4i. Slightly stronger loft In comparison to CB1008, by 1 degree I believe.
Picture on the bottom right, my fitter was extremely meticulous and patient weighing each grip so I don’t get sudden difference in swing weight. Miura is famously known for the tight tolerance in head weights, lie angles and lofts. Yet we remeasured everything and They were remeasured spot on! However we found the 8i head was lighter and immediately he replace it with a new one. What a great service!
The TC201 is built with modus3 120 whereas the CB1008 was built with DG X100 Tour Issue. Having a minor setup and swing change, I required 0.25” longer with 2 extra underlay wrap on my right hand to make the grip more parallel. The swing weight was measured spot on D3.2. The next step was bending all irons 0.5* upright. The fitter then carefully wrapped the iron head prior to bending (2nd picture(s) top right).
Didn’t have time for trackman or GCQuad testing, took them for 2 straight rounds in 2 days and the feel was unmistakably “Miura soft” with impressive ball speed. Of course taking into counts that I’m not a robot, but with good swing mechanics on sweet spot, I’m seeing great ball speed with proper spin and angle of decent, the ball pitch and land with superb control. Ball used were TM TP5X on mid firm greens with 10.5 stimp meters.
Prior of changing to TC201, I also bought Miura MC501, Callaway XForged, Rogue Pro, Ping i500 and Apex Pro CF19. Hey it’s golfwrx after all...
Xforged was nice and soft but couldn’t get the distance I wanted. Rogue Pro was good distance player’s irons but the feel was rock hard in comparison to Miura. MC501 was superb but couldn’t quite get the desired ball speed and forgiveness. i500 was a rocket without control, Apex Pro CF19 was awesome and served me well for the 2019 period but I did get occasional low spin “flier” shots with the cup face technology and at times distance control could be a challenge. Maybe it’s just me but loved the “cracking” sound it makes when compressing the ball.
Will be doing some testing using GCQuad with different balls before more on course testing.
Not exactly a honeymoon period since the feel is unmistakably familiar. A worthy predecessor of CB1008. Like an old flame with sexier body lol...
Here are some pictures of my MC501 and CB1008 with the same grind, only MiuraGiken TC101 can be fully customized, multiple grind options, top line thickness, offset, head size and 10 or so different finishes...

I've been considering Miura and recently contacted a fitter. I'm gaming the Apex CF19's and really like them, but distance control and fliers is something I've experienced.

If you could answer a question or two, I'd greatly appreciate it. How do they feel as far as forgiveness compared to the CF19's? What about feel? I know what you mean about the crack that the CF19's exhibit when hit flush. It's really nice.

What about the head size compared to the CF19's? Did you have to give up a lot of distance when moving to the TC-201's?

Also would like to the details sought by @jjfcpa
First off, great review and comparisons by @st_pedro Answered a lot of questions I have had. Always looking for the perfect Miura fit. Have a set of CB57s. So good. Not my gamers because my rounds are usually played off memory, not practice.
Have been looking at CB1008 or CB2008. Fear the 1008 would not be forgiving enough and not crazy about the sole width or overall chunkiness of the 2008. Feel like I need something in between. Is that where the TC201 fits? How is its sole vs the 1008? I really like the looks of it and the way they designed in the perimeter weighting.
Stay healthy. Go play golf.

I was playing Apex Pro CF19 with loft weaken 1*. So it’s similar to Miura TC201, both clubs using same iron flex and length. Did a lot of testing for distance comparison and they are very close in terms of carry, however spin rate is much lower with Apex Pro with steep angle of descend. It’s the occasional fliers that I wasn’t able to control.

Perhaps you might wanna consider Miura CB301. Spec wise very similar with loft, face progression and size with Apex ‘19 but with “Miura” soft forged feel. This isn’t mine but I’ve tested it and yes it’s longer due to stronger loft and slightly faster ball speed and very forgiving but due to the offset and slighter thicker top line, however it’s just doesn’t suit me.

TC201 might direct or indirectly a CB1008 replacement. Don’t quote on me, I might be wrong. Miura experts please do chime in.

Size wise, it is only 0.1mm larger but in golf it might be minuscule or ginormous difference for some.

Here’s a picture TC201 vs CB1008

I used to play Mizuno TN 87's (Tommy Nakajima) which had the copper underlay. They were the softest irons I'd ever played.

Might have been mental, who knows.

Good luck.

I have a set of Miura CB-1008 and love them. However I am needing new shafts - need to go stiffer and add +1/2”. So debating getting new shafts into the current CB-1008 which is in a great condition or get the TC-201 with the shafts is want. I would only do it if the TC-201 is a big improvement over the CB-1008? Are the two different in terms of performance/forgiveness?
