KBS C Taper X vs X100

KBS c-taper in x flex is very stiff. I went with the S+ because I'm right on the border, ss wise at 99 mph(easy swing) with my 5 iron, and don't want to swing out of my shoes to be able to load the x flex properly on every single iron shot. The X100s definately play softer compared to the c-taper x. As for flight, X100s launch lower but spin a little more than the c-tapers from flightscope testing I did with the same heads most likely due to the softer tip section. I was able to easily load the shaft but distance wise, I was shorter with the X100s. Hope this helps.

Any Other Opinions?

I am expecting my TM 2009 TP's are going to be back this week...going from X100 to Ctaper X's...will let you know what I find out. I have liked the X100's alot, but got such a deal on the Ctapers had to try them. I am 100-102 with the 5 iron, tend to go at my long irons fairly hard, so wasn't that concerned with the X in the Ctapers. I have hit the Ctaper X in a friends 690 MB's in a 7 iron, hit 6 or 7 shots with it, one ball mark on the face, and the shot pattern was almost identical for all shots hit. Loved the feel, thought it was a touch smoother than the X100's for me actually, just smooth with that great kick at the bottom.

Hopefully have a box on the door step today or tomorrow.

Had my fitting for 712mb's 10 days ago, I discarded the x100s (which I have played for a long time) after just a few shots as the dispersion was nowhere near as good with the ctaper. Can't remember exact numbers but my 6 iron was 96mph, lowish spin at 3000ish I think and high launch (my slider swing does this).

Finished package was a 6 iron carrying 190y with 10y roll out (trackman) 2* flat standard loft, c-taper x flex.

Definatly try the c-taper, the feeling was unbelievable

did you order the c tapers? Not trying to offend you but with 96 mph with a 6 you should carry it at least 198+ and 3000 is way to low for an iron even with a high flight

I did order the c-tapers it was 5*C (41*F) so pretty cold. I think my launch angle was around 21* but am not certain.

Am more worried by dispersion than distance anyway and play in the UK so lower ball flight is favorable.

During the fitting I was hitting Pro v1x balls, perhaps the Pro v1 might give a few hundred extra RPMs

How far did you hit your 6 iron with X100s? I'm trying to decide between S+ or X. I currently hit my 6 about 185 but have no idea what my SS is.

My old 6 iron was AP1 with X100 and that was 185y carry and 3-5y roll out. With the MB 6iron with X100 I was at 185-190y carry and a 7/8y roll out, I hit the c-taper much more consistently though.

I just hit S+ and X flex C Tapers......
I think CPM measurement is often misleading.....
The X flex feels and plays softer than X100's to me
[/quote]

Agreed on the softer feel, and to me that is less effort thru the ball. The X100 cpm around 6.8 standard length and the S+ is about the same, but I felt the X in the Ctaper felt just smoother than the X100's at the same weight..and I really like the 130 grams...120 is just too light for me.

Just saying, if you have the option to hit all the flexes, do it.

Got my 09 Tour Preferred's back from TM today...took them to work (GG) tonight and hit them in the monitor...I have hit my TP's with X100's in the monitor here alot so I know what I usually get.
With the 6 iron on here, SS 90-92, LA 18-19, RPM 4950-5100, carry about 182-185 on solid shots.
Hit the same 6 iron head with the Ctaper and got SS 90-92, LA 18-19, RPM 4450-4600, Carry about 191-195.

Feel wise...they are noticeably smoother in the overall swing then the X100's, and the kick is completely different, you really feel it kick thru the ball, not in a bad way, just different and smooth at impact. IMO..I like them better than the X100, better results with less effort is the feel I get. BTW...dispersion was WAY TIGHTER with the Ctaper. Hope that helps.

You are getting 21-24 FEET of roll with a 6 iron? With that swing speed, I would think you would have to be hitting very low runners to get anywhere near that amount of roll. My 6i swing speed is similar to yours, according to the Mizuno Shaft Optimizer, and on average, my ball will be within a yard or so of the pitch mark on a full shot.

I'm currently in the same debacle, I play x100 but am thinking s+ in a ctaper. My SS is at 91-93 with a 7 iron

Ctaper x launch higher with less spin

X100 lower launch with more spin

I find ctaper feel better, smoother.

Ctaper feel powerful on the strike, so smooth with that kick!

I think many golfers here find that C-Tapers "bend" a little more at impact vs. Dynamic Gold. ;)

In my experience with the two, was different for me. C-Taper launches lower and is flatter, but agree it feels better. My cousin has X100's in his Mizuno, and I don't like them nearly as much.

I feel like I can feel the load more on the KBS and I love that being able to feel the ball compress at impact like squeezing it out there. Not sure how to describe it.

I am considering the same thing.  I have been a long player of X100 but I hit a high ball and spins more than what I like.  Feel this might be a good option to go with.
