Mickelson switches to Hex Chrome + Golf Ball

Like changing to the Phrankenwood wasn't enough, Mickelson has also changed to a Callaway Hex Chrome + golf ball.

And that's not all, he's got new Callaway X Forged (2013) 7, 8 and 9 irons in the bag.

If you're keeping score, that's four new clubs and a new golf ball this week.

Crazy, right?

The cover is softer and it compresses a little more generating more spin and hold. At least, it was how it was explained to me when I asked about this ball.

As I said in another thread, he's as bad as we are...constantly tinkering!

I had heard he was playing a prototype of the Hex Chrome plus for awhile now, I don't think he just put the ball in play this week. I did notice the new 8 iron on a close up , I had not gone back through my recorded stuff to see it for sure.

The hex chrome ball interests me.. I might have to try it out.

Brandel Chamblee just said he has three 3-woods in his bag....with the Phrankenwood being under 200 cc's. Talk about bad information.

Phil said he put the new irons in play because they gave him more spin on approach shots. I think he thought the greens were going to be harder to hold and not be so soft.

I was told it was a hex black but a higher spin version. There are three versions of the HEX BLACK. They're +, •, and *. Gary Woodland played the * version so that's how I know about the different versions

You would think he would have the cbs in the long irons and keep the mbs for the scoring clubs...interesting to say the least

It's the Hex Chrome ++. A totally different ball. But for those of you that haven't played the hex Chrome + yet---DO IT. GREAT ball. If they market it right, should be a huge seller.

I just picked up a dozen yesterday. It's going to be 60* Sunday so I'll test it against the Hex Black (my current ball) then.

Hex Chrome + is a great ball. Ive had the yellow and white on the course and they feel great and definately spin more off the irons then the HBT.

Are the hex chrome+ available in stores now, or is there a release date? I liked the original chrome, but have been playing the black recently. definitely interested in the chrome+

Good for Phil! I hope the small driver works well, we may soon see a migration away from 460 drivers.

I think they will hit stores in the next 2 weeks. I've even heard of some shops having them on the floor already but that's not the case in most places. I want to say the 19th

They had just gotten them at my local Golfsmith on Wednesday. I've only pitched and putted with them. So far, I think the Lethal is a better all around ball, especially since I got some off ebay for $35/doz. But I intend to put the Chrome + to a better test next week.
