Older models of Callaway Fairways

What do you think are the best older Callaway fairway woods? looking at the 2004 bb titanium and the ERC models. Some good deals on the pre owned site right now.

I was thinking about an ERC Fairway, but wasn't sure if its legal or not ? I know all the Drivers of the ERC were non-conforming, does anyone know if the ERC Fairway is ok ?

I recently picked up a "outlet" condition (practically new) 2008 FT Tour 3-wood with a Fujikura E370 shaft for $65. With only a few rounds played with it, it has taken the spot once held by my Titleist 910F (which was an excellent club on its own).

The 2006 X series fairway woods are also really nice too. Ernie Els still plays a 2006 X 5-wood I think.

+1 the FT Tour is an excellent fairway wood. The hybrids were really good too.

I have an X tour which I believe was 2008 and it is really good for me. Super easy to hit. If the X hot is as easy to hit it is going in my bag.

I have the older model xhot 3 wood with aldila proto vs shaft. I haven't hit the new xhot woods yet but it'd take a lot to pry this club out of my bag. Long and straight!

Steelhead III. Love it.

If your looking older I'd go either with a Steelhead III or the older X Hot, both are bombers & a ton of guys still gaming them. Don't know much about the Fusion or FT Tour as I've never hit them but the Diablo Tour is also a long fairway as well.

I use 2004 Big Berthas. Got the titanium 3 wood. Great off the tee, I don't find it easy to hit off the ground though. Also got the steel 4, 5 and 7 woods. Easy to hit, nice high flight. Great clubs. I usually carry the 4 and 7, but will take the 3 and 5 if I'm planning to use the 3 off the tee a lot.

Steelhead III. I've got a 7 wood with a Pro-Lite 35 shaft that is one of my all time favorites along with the 585h with YS 6+, but that's for another thread.

Def steelheads. Killer.

BB 2004's are solid with a good shaft.

GBB2 is a long head. Like the Exotics the 16.5* 4w is as long as most 3wds. I still have mine and pull it out every so often.

Original XHot is a great Thriver style wood, but hard as heck to hit off the deck.

Original Steelhead's are a good, smaller headed option but lack in distance compared to most of today's FW's.

Fusions also crazy long for it's time, if the NVS shaft works for you.

FT's a good players head.

X-Tour another good option but I hated the stock shafts 26.x 27.x or whatever.

Heck, Freddie is still rocking the Squareway.


Callaway just makes solid fairway woods. Not a bad apple in the bunch, really. . Heck just posting this makes me think I will put my GBB in play tomorrow [size=4] [/size]

The VFT titanium woods are pretty good,still have the 3 wood

I don`t think you can find a better fairway than the Big Bertha ERC. They are long, the feel is fantastic and they are relatively forgiving. I`ve had them for many years and haven`t played with anything better.The problem is mine are getting old and they are very hard to find now. I`d love to find a 3/5 woods firm flex in excellent cond. The Great big Berthas are good also.

I played a Steelhead III 4+ with a Fuji Vista Pro up until Feb when I switched to a TEE. I think I bought it in 01 and nothing could get it out of my bag until the TEE. Highly recommend

I second the only other poster that suggested it. The VFT pro-series is the best Callaway 3 wood. I still have a 13.5, and while I don't play it anymore, it ranks among the best, longest I've ever played.
I would give it to you if I could, as it just sits there.

The 2004 BB [i]titanium[/i] 3 wood was a beast off the tee. Very similar to the oversized/deep phrankenhot being marketed now. In fact, someone on here made the Minie Driver joke about this one back in the day. If only it came in a lower loft. Does anyone know what the CC's were on this club?

I STILL game the Hawk Eye Ti pro series 4-wood (Its 15 degrees and slightly more compact than a standard 3-wood) and it's still as long or longer than most anything out there. Great feel too. I think this was one of the earliest Ti fairway woods. Must be something like 12-13 years old now?
