Anyone play Anthem or Foothills in the past few weeks?

Quite the contrast there....Anthem is Anthem...always good. No idea on FH, I have given up...but last report was not terrible.

Playing with a friend who isn't all that good and doesn't want to spend much money. It's close to his house so it's just convenient. He said it was in good condition but I think his good and my good are two different things. Supposedly new owners.

Understood...but FH is $44-69; for a few dollars more you could play Legacy which is in the same vicinity and is exponentially better in every facet. Plus it is good for players that are "not good"....better than FH.

When I say convenient I mean basically walk across the street. I'm playing 36 in Anthem on Saturday and would like to save the 40 minute round trip on Sunday. And he's played FH several times before and know what to expect.

Headed to PHX for a company meeting next week at Tapatio. Has it been improved in the past few years? The last time I played there it was nothing special and needed a little TLC. Thanks in advance.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Is raven in Good shape right now? Easy walk?

Simple walk....played it before christmas and it was fine. They were really wetting it at that time, but other than that it was good.

Ms is so fun! I wish ppl wouldn’t discount it b/c all 18 holes are par 3s. What did you think of Forrest Richardson’s (course architect) interpretation of Macraynor’s template holes?

GCU today-everything was solid except greens on 7, 8 & 9. The rye didn't take on those greens which are spotty and bumpy. Course is starting to show some wear with digits and ball marks. Great deal for $38 to walk on weekends with city card.

I heard the issues with the bunkers at Aguila are not ending anytime soon. From a reliable source, I understand that the city has sued the vendor who re-did the bunkers, which are not draining. Aguila tells all players to stay out of bunkers with free drop. Cost of repair is $500k aparently. Not that lawyers are involved, who knows when it will end.... too bad for the city players.

Played AZ Golf Resort on Saturday with MVoss (great guy btw and a lot of fun to play with). Course is in ok shape....the greens on the front were a little rough and bumpy and had a good amount of ball marks, but they seemed to improve a good amount on the back. Fairways were wet in places and had some muddy/bare spots. Overall I would say it was a 6/10 so very average condition wise, but for $50 as a non-city course in winter it's not a bad option.

First time playing here and though I normally discount short/easy courses as being boring and never play, it was actually a fun course. Several holes with huge dog legs that you can cut off and nearly drive the green if you want or play it conservative with an iron or hybrid off the tee and have a short iron/wedge in. The Par 3's are a little odd in that I think it's weird on a 6500 yard course to have 220 yard par 3's but that's just me. I may actually go back and play again this weekend as I think it's a great course for working on your swing and trying different shots.

Thank you for the kind words. It was a pleasure playing with you too. Sorry about almost giving you a heart attack by telling you about the sales tax on cars in Denmark.

I generally agree with the assessment of the course. Fairly short and forgiving so should be a good opportunity to score. Quite a few holes with options to be aggressive if you are confident with your driver. However, I would say that there were also holes where missing the fairway by only a couple of yards resulted in ending up behind/underneath a tree with a very tough next shot. Not bad value considering the prices around here this time of year. Greens were pretty slow and somewhat bumpy and rough is nonexistant. All par 5's are great scoring opportunities if you can hit the fairway. Par 4's are an interesting mix, but overall favoring a fade imo. Par 3's lack variety with 3 in the 210-230 range and and 2 just short of 180, feels especially weird on an otherwise fairly short course.

A little bit of a pet peeve. Why have the starter tell people that greens are running 9.5 when it obviously isn't true. We had a nice laugh about it, but I have seen this happen a few times now and just don't get it. If the greens are slow, people will notice, it's not like you can just tell us that the greens are relatively quick and we will play 18 holes leaving everything short while still believing that you got the stimp right.

All things considered a nice day on a 6/10 or so golf course in good company - what's not to like :)

I'm with you on the stimp. Played Anthem and the starter said they were rolling 10-11. They were definitely fast. Then played the foothills and after putting on the practice green I laughed when the sign said they were rolling a 9. No way, maybe 6 at best, very slow and furry. Then the starter says yea they don't ever change that, they are probably rolling around a 14. I asked if he was sure about that to which he replied you don't think so. I said this ain't Oakmont buddy. Obviously had no clue.

Played cave creek golf club today for the first time. While not as good as Papago or Aguila, I liked it quite a bit. Has some fun holes and some risk reward holes as well. Course was in pretty decent shape. Greens were firm and rolling pretty good, probably a 9.5 or so. Some greens were a little spotty as were the fairways but overall better than AZ Golf Resort but just a notch below Aguila. The rough was pretty spotty overall though. Only complaint about the course is the last par 5 is boarderline driver or 3 wood off the tee and too many holes are driver lob wedge but you can always play iron off the tee

ARGH 16 beginning of one of my biggest meltdowns on a golf course. I was 3 under standing in 16 fairway with a 6 iron in hand to reach the green in two. (pro tip aim way left and cut the corner off the tee) I hit 6 iron pin high in a tuft of heavy rough about 6 yards from the pin. I proceed to make a 6 then tripled 17 turning a -3 that should have been -4 after 16 into a +1. Almost holed out on 18 made the birdie to shoot E. I agree though fun course at times if they want to get difficult with pin positions it can play pretty tough especially if they get the green speeds up. some crazy severe breaks on the greens.

Lol...I can see that happening there...the lies around the green are a little iffy due to maintenance. The group I was with told me to to just let it rip and didn't mention the water down the fairway...Luckily I found out after hooking the heck out of my drive that it was better to play the other fairway as you have more room to come in...and the angle isn't half bad either. If I was down our hole I would have easily been wet. Greens could be a little less severe as they are a little extreme in my opinion, but it's definitely fun.

What a damn shame.

Playing Arizona grand tomorrow with some co workers. Will be my 1st round since moving to the valley.

LOL...sorry to hear this....guess you will be moving back to Texas post that round. You could not have chosen a worse place to start your AZ golfing experience. But hey, it pretty much cannot get any worse....! :)
