Hey guys, I wanted to make a WITB and also consolidate the different pieces of info i used to created my golf room in my garage. This page will be a work in progress since there are still a few things I want to do in the room to make it better but I hope it helps those looking for a good starting point.

Simulator Build

 

 

I want to start by giving out thanks to the following people for their help with getting me started on this.

So when making a simulator room there are 5 main parts.

1. Room Environment - necessary space, sound management, and lighting
   
2. Projector and Screen/Net Setup
   
3. Simulator Unit and Computer
   
4. Hitting Area - creating a good hitting surface with no impediments
   
5. Extras - this is how you make the room "yours" - ex. a putting green, tv, etc.
   

 

For sake of time I am going to make different modules on this to go over each section since i think making different posts in this topic will make it easier to reference for others going forward plus I do not have the time at the moment to make an all encompassing post.

Looks like a great setup. I have been wanting to pull the trigger on Skytrak & TGC but have a little remodeling to do in the garage first. Looking forward to reading your posts.

 

Also suspecting that a newer model of Skytrak will be coming out later this year due to the recent price drops...

 

Ottawagolf and the forums at GSF are great but would like to see a simulator forum here at WRX.

I certainly don't have the space ( or the skills) at the minute to have something like that but it really is a dream of mine for one day.

Not yet but my live in gf was very supportive of it. It makes me think she's working on the long con.

I use it mostly in the winter or if there's crappy weather in the season. I've been trying to get 30 mins of practice with full shots, 15 with wedges and another 15 with putting per night. The Apple TV in there keeps my pseudo ADD brain avtive enough to keep practicing.

 

I'm going to start filling in the modules soon and you'll see the skills aren't necessary thanks to the internet. My previous height of wood working skills was making a bird feeder in 5th grade. The space thing though is generally what makes it tough because you need about 18x12x10 to make it not feel really enclosed.

It's really not bad if you break it down into smaller tasks. The hardest part I found was design/planning and the research necessary to get that part done. Hopefully this page will help give a primer on the different sections all in one place.

 

You should reach out to GxGolfer, I approached him via message last year about having a separate sim section but he said that the clubmakers section was designated for sims. I think with enough requests he may open a separate section for just sims. It makes sense to do so especially with the advent of skytrak and other "reasonably priced" sim options.

Its really pretty easy to build the putting station. i just figured out the dimensions of the birdie ball putting green and then built two "boxes" to contain it. I'll have a bit more time to work up the schematics and post them here after the superbowl. I'm swamped until next monday.

Supposedly he is a border collie/lab mix that was going to be 70lbs.

 

He is 120lbs so we think he may have something else in there.

That was from 2 years ago - i completely forgot about this thread. I still have the M3 Driver, the M3 3HL, P790s and the Spider Tour Center Shaft in the bag.

 

I guess i need to finish the sim room primer since i told HipCheck i would do a write up on that. Its been a busy... 2 years... :)
