Higher launching/spinning - Ping Anser Or Ping Rapture driver ?

Gents I’m looking to try some older Ping drivers. I’m a slower swinger (90 mph) and need all the launch I can get. So I like to test 12-13.5* drivers. Currently playing an M3 12*.

 

I wasn’t a big club ho back when these drivers were out. Does anyone know which of these two heads would launch and spin higher ?

I would guess the Rapture. I think the Anser was designed as a better-players club.

All other things equal, the Rapture would launch and spin higher than the Anser. If you are looking for higher launch and spin you might try the K15; incredibly underrated driver that was clearly better FOR ME in a fitting in 2010 than the original Rapture with an XCon5 in it.

I don't know how those two compare to each other, but both are low spin heads. I got fit by PING back when the Rapture and G5 came out. They wanted to put me into the Rapture since it spun less than the G5, but I needed the 7.5* head which was tour only in the Rapture since PING assumed not many regular golfers would need that low of launch and spin. The Anser, when it came out, was one of the lowest spin heads available. If you're looking for more spin in a PING head, stick with the G series (or the K15)... the G25 was extremely popular amongst the guys that I normally play with.

The Rapture isn't a particularly high spinning head but it will definitely be higher spinning than the Anser. That one was really too low of spin for most players. Even the pros.

If I could make the k15 work for me I would. But I’ve owned about 9 of them. Six different shafted 12* and three 10.5’s. The way I play my hands at address the sole rocked the head way too shut and all I did was hook it.

 

Someone else mentioned the g series.

I’ve tried the g15 13.5 and g25 in 12* and hooked both of those too much too. Not as much as the K15 but still drew too much and cost me distance.

 

The most success I had with a Ping driver was the Rapture V2 13.5 with Tour Reg flex shaft. Of course chasing adjustable drivers I sold it. Now I can’t find one on eBay so I thought I’d try the OG Rapture in 12* since some nicer ones on eBay have popped up.

 

For me the RV2 seemed to sit neutral to slightly open. The G series always look a little closed to me.

Tried it twice and couldn’t get the draw out of it.

 

My driver grip is super strong. I know I should try and change it but when I do it’s a mess. So I simply just fit the club to my swing as best I can.

Fair enough. Stiffer tip shafts don't help straighten it out any?

I’m a slower swinger (yesterday 90-92 mph) so I usually play 58-65g) R flex shafts as those have given me the best results. Usually if I try a firmer tipped R flex, S or X flex the low snap hooks come out. Or ball flight is simply too low.

 

I’ve tried lite A flex shafts too and those usually result in big sweeping hooks that start right of the fairway and end up in the left rough.
