Toulon/Odyssey - Does it change your perception of the Toulon Brand?

I wonder if this type of discussion was going on with Scotty Cameron fans around 1995-96 when he joined forces with Titleist.

No because there has only been one Titleist stamp on every Cameron, just as there was only one Odyssey stamp on the first Toulons.

That's not true. Through the 90s he had models with Titleist on both the sole and in the cavity/back, then moved sole and hosel. I'm pretty sure the early grips were Titleist branded too. It seems like the Titleist branding was reduced in the 2000s when Cameron became super well known to the golfing public.

The Cameron website has a very detailed archive of retail offerings available: https://www.scottyca...putter-archive/

My mistake. But even then, Scotty Cameron was as prominent as the Titleist stamp. Eventually Titleist was relegated to the background. This is the opposite.

I'm glad I've got a previous gen.

If Toulon is as successful as Scotty Cameron I can assure you his name will become more prominent in the future.

If Odyssey's thinking is to stamp it with their name in the most visible places to drive sales, they're not going back if it works.

Slightly off topic of branding, but I tried the new Toulon Vegas in the H7 neck. Not for me. The feel was hollow and the stroke lab shaft felt unstable. If it'd been great I wouldn't have cared about the badging as I stated previously. I'm sure it'll be perfect for others. Obviously YMMV.

Agreed.

For me, the shaft is a real bust.

Yes. On Callaway’s website you can’t chnage out of the Stroke Lab shaft. Is this a garage only option or does the site need updating?

Tried the new Austin, San Diego, and Palm Beach yesterday. The look phenomenal but the feel is not as sweet as the last gen. Maybe it's the shaft or the full face milling. Roll is still great, finish is very nice, but wonder how these would be without Stroke Lab.

There were zero Odyssey stamps on the first Toulons. When Callaway bought them they added an Odyssey stamp to the weight plate.

I didn't think I would mind, but I do. I wish they kept the same stamping with Odyssey only on the bottom. It doesn't feel right to be paying $450 and up (if you go through the Garage) for an Odyssey putter.

Ive sold some Odysseys for 800 to 1400...i think their pricing for a premium putter is fine.

No one is walking into their LGS and paying $800-1400 for an OTR Odyssey. So your example is a poor one.

Kinda have to agree with that statement. The person that walks into a golf galaxy or whatever big box store and and starts rolling putts with every other putter on the rack, would definitely not be paying that kind of money for a putter. Those are the people that Odyssey’s $100-$200 line of putters are marketed for.

Also absolutely hate what Odyssey did to the Toulon putters. I have first gen San Diego and Austin and love those things. I may try and find another of the first gen of either and buy it just because feels like it is more valuable now lol.

I agree with this as well...a majority of Golf Galaxy shoppers and employees dont have the slightest idea about the tour issued Odyssey putters and the nuances that make their value go up a lot more than the sticker price on a retail Odyssey. In my above post, when I said ive sold some for 800 to 1400, there was no inquiry into why those prices, just a blanket statement about their place in the market in general, which furthers the point.
