What's more impressive, shooting your age at 65 or 85?

Shooting your age at 85 is my vote. If I can play golf at all at 85 I'll be happy

I shot under my age last year at 64 years old. But, I can still hit it past, or at least with, most amateurs.

 

I doubt I’ll see 85 years old.

 

I once played with a guy who had a little puff of white hair who chopped his way down every fairway 100 yards at a time. After a few holes, I told that I hoped I could do the same when I was his age.

 

It turned out that he was younger than me. So, fitness has a lot to do with this...

I would be very happy to see an 85 year old person still able to play golf and enjoy the game.

 

I would be very _impressed_ to see anyone fire a (-7) 65 round.

Definitely shooting your age at 65. To shoot an 85 a person only needs to make 5 pars and all bogeys. A good way to look at this is that "par" for the 85 year old is 90. So to be on a green in "regulation" is on in 3 on par 4s, and on in 4 on par 5s. This is a reasonable feat for a person who is still able to swing a club, even if it only goes 150 yards. So if 90 is par, the 85 year old only has to shoot 5 under "par".

At 65, you lose that extra shot per hole advantage and now you need to shoot 7 under par. I doubt I'll ever shoot a 65 in my life, let alone after I turn 65. I just think this is a much more impressive accomplishment.

I have gone back and forth on this have realized that I am 67, started at age 40, and my best score was 84 20 years ago. I have to base my answer on a scratch or better golfer, including tour pros. I believe for the advanced golfer shooting your age at 65 is more of a challenge than shooting 85 at 85. 22 years from now I do not believe Tiger will be shooting a 65 but if he stays somewhat healthy at 85 I can see him carding his age. I also have seen a golfers 85+ shoot his age from the forward tees but have never heard of a golfer shooting his age at 65, although I am sure it has happened..

65. Only a tiny fraction of 1% of the best payers at any age will sniff a 65 off any tee box. Add in the age, and it's even more special.

I'd like to think that I could still shoot 85 if I am healthy enough at that and play off the front men's tees. I don;t think I could ever shoot 65 even if I dedicated the next 5 years of my middle age life to it.

for sure 65, when I was in my 40's we had an 80+ as a regular from the standard men's tees. In the 9 years I played with him, it was a rare day when he did not break 82.
