2019 MLB Thread

So, I start this message noting that I am a homer all the way, as a result I say Nats in either 5 or 6. Not sure exactly how they get to that spot though.

My biggest concern is how the long layoff will affect the team, on the one side, rest and recovery, on the other no substitute for live pitching and hitting, etc. And, yesterday was a total rainout for them - so no idea where they would get normal practice in.

Ok all that out of the way, I think that the DH helps the NL team more overall than the AL team - in these interleague games, can't explain exactly why, other than to say, you can play a better fielder and let the 'big bat' come off the bench. So, in this case, Hendrick or Adams (for example) could DH allowing other bats - though Dozier strikes out a lot, to field. Also they could play the switch hitting asdrubal Cabrera either as DH or at second.

As to the bull pen, yea, it stinks. They have 2 solid innings that can be applied with bull pen arms, and maybe a couple of specific batter matchups. This means that they need the starters to go 6+ every game - and given how they played the last 6 games, could happen - depends on how quiet their bats are and how Max, Strasburg, Corbin do.

Nats are something like 16 and 2 over the last 3 weeks. They were a tossup to beat Milwaukee, big underdogs to LA, and then underdogs to St Louis. The Nats have played - as they like to say, win or go home games for a couple months - struggling to get that home field for the WC game.

If I had to bet the rent, I'm taking Houston - but if I think about all the other stuff - the Nats match up well. And take away the crappy start - since June Nats are as good as anyone - and that includes the historically bad bull pen - which again, won't be used like it was most of the season.

Cheers - and here's hoping it's a great series.

The ump for game 6 missed 20 calls, the worst of any playoff game this year, and 14 of which helped the Astros.

Holy Cow the Nats are playing some great baseball right now. Came from being down against the Dodgers to win the Divisional.......totally steamrolled the Cardinals in the NLCS, and now up 2 games to none against the best team(during the regular season) in baseball. Can't wait for game 3 on Friday in DC!!

Not anymore. Nats bats have gone cold.

No kidding......what a total 180 from what we've seen the past 2 weeks.

No clue, horrible call, but the umps have favored Houston all series so it's not a huge deal to me

every pitch in baseball is now tracked and every viewer can see on screen where it was in relation the the strike box.....why are we still asking umps to call balls and strikes....to please the baseball purists?

I read an article, that indicated that the FOX version of the ball/strike zone was not nearly as accurate as the one on (I think) MLB.com - where you can watch games - sort of. I think that threw some people off - myself included. For me, I really don't mind it that much (missed balls/strikes), but I would like them to be consistent. Calling low ball a strike do so all game - that way the players adjust. It used to be that way - now, one pitch inside strike next pitch same spot ball, 2 pitches later on the black - ball - outside strike - so inconsistent - that must make the players nuts.

I completely agree. Electronic line calls saved televised tennis. There's no point in arguing about something that every viewer can see better than the guy calling the balls and strikes.
