Budget WITB

Recommended Posts

Hey fellas! Finally upgraded my bag from my beginner clubs I’ve been playing since 2015.

•Driver:10.5 XR Speed/Hazardous 6.0. Bought an m1 440 but couldn’t hit it well, so sold it and bought this, and it’s been great.

•Fairway wood:16 Adams Tightlies/Stock stiff flex. This made it over from the old bag. So easy to hit due to the shallow face.

•Irons: Mizuno MP-H4 XP 115. Great stock combo set. Absolutely love these irons.

•Wedges:Nike Engage 52,58 Stock Wedge Flex

•Putter: Ping Karsten Anser 33” with SS 3.0

•Bag: TaylorMade Flextech or Flexlite maybe?

•Ball- Used K-Sigs I buy online

I’ve contemplated maybe a 17 *hybrid but haven’t really noticed an unmanageable gap there. Absolutely love the Karsten Anser. Not going anywhere!

Hey like it--- Play what works---- I am a big fan of that Adams 16* carry one myself but with a Mitsubishi R shaft. Those Nike wedges IMHO are under rated and good wedges. I like the fact you stated you did not like your other driver and got the X1-R--- IMHO that head is also under rated and IMHO one of the best driver heads Callaway made. A while back I was going to buy a used one that was a demo at my course and shaft it for me but I got a smoking hot deal on my current Homna driver that I am playing now. Yep great low budget bag and remember being an accounting man it does not have to be the latest and greatest or the most expensive to play well

It is a spectacular fairway wood. Easiest one to hit that I have tried. The driver is very good as well, with the only complaint being how loud it is. Thanks for the kind words!

Fan of your budget bag. I have that same TL 4 hybrid shafted with the same shaft as my irons. Great versatility.. out of trouble, chipping, anything. Solid softish feel. However I would be sometimes short or surprisingly long but couldn't tell from contact. No hook issues. I switched to an H4 4 iron like you have, and prefer it. It's not as long as the TL hybrid, but distance wise more consistent for me, still versatile, and I just like the iron's look and feel better. Not getting rid of that hybrid though... very useful. Good luck though, may work out for you.

Still sticking with Adams I see---- Me too!!---- In fact you will love this. A while back I found a Adams Pro 20* on the pile at work ( I work for a metal recycling company) in good shape but had a rebar stiff shaft in it. No way I could hit it. I had found a couple of TM Burner hybrids that were as ugly as home made sin but with 65 R shafts. Yep you guessed it I put a Stock TM hybrid shaft in the Adams. That turned out to be a little pocket rocket. I call it my inbred Hybrid.

Just submitted the order for my Maltby irons and sand wedge. Been playing the last week with a set of irons my dad had in his garage since 97. He bought them from Walmart. He’s upgraded to new irons since then but always kept them laying around. They were rough feeling and had terrible distance but would spin the ball almost back to ya. Also played an old Cleveland Cg 12 sand wedge and it would eat urethane covers too. Can’t wait to get my Maltbys in and will throw some pictures up.

New clubs are in! Maltby Sti2 irons 4-G and a Maltby DBM Forged 56*. All with the Score shaft that comes with the Pack. Just got back from the first range session with them and I like them. Obviously they don’t feel like my old Mizuno’s but the forgiveness is crazy. I put some bad swings on these and the ball still went straight.

Iron lofts

4-22

5-25

6-28.5

7-32

8-36

9-40

P-44

G-50(bent from 48)

S-56

Going to be playing 12 clubs. I like being creative to fill gaps.

Irons put up a strong showing in their first round today. 56 wedge is also fantastic. Grooves bite hard. I have to get used to flying the ball a bit further since the wedge spins so much. The only issue is I had was the new lofts being the strongest I’ve ever played.. I hit a pitching wedge that was bang on line and bounced off the back of the green into the heavily wooded area behind it. Just have to get used to pulling one less club. Fantastic irons and wedge, especially for the price.

I see you still have that old Adams 16 in there and your cover is flaking like mine. Since I have been laid up due to an accident my wife got tired of looking at my battered mis matched covers so she bought me a set of matched stars and stripes sock type.

All joking aside Maltby makes some good stuff and I will say you made some good choices there. Hope you hit them well and enjoy them

Got selected for Cobra SpeedZone Driver testing! My ongoing review is the the Tour and Prerelease section. Both of the models are great. Not quite sure which one will be in the bag yet, but the Callaway Xr Speed is definitely gone, to be replaced with one of the SpeedZone Models. Like them so much that the Adams 3 wood is in danger of getting replaced by a Cobra fairway, which I never thought I would even consider since it’s the easiest fw I’ve ever hit. I’m wanting something with some crazy distance now though, which the Adams has always lacked. I’ve kept it because it’s so point and shoot.

Looks like that DBM finish wears off pretty quickly eh?....man I have been curious about black irons for awhile now and by all accounts it seems like the way Cobra/Maltby/Hogan do it is the most durable (apparently TM and Titleist just basically paint the clubs black) but if it's going to wear away and show the silver underneath I think I'll pass on black altogether and stick with my AP2s.....

Looks like you have been doing some pretty decent ball striking there.

Grabbed a couple of fresh wedges for the bag. Maltby TSW DRM. I had been playing a 44 pw ,50 gw, 56 sw set up. Switching it up a little and now playing 44 pw, 48 gw, 54 sw , 60 lw.   They feel pretty good just from chipping around the yard. Playing with them for the first time in the morning.
