Got a chance to buy a set of original 845's 2- w4 for $40 is that still considered vintage

Everyone has a different version of what they think is vintage. 845’s were originally issued in 1988 so that’s vintage I guess, but as a cavity back and a club that still relevant today in some players bags, would not be considered “vintage” by a lot of guys on this forum. All that being said $40 for 2 through 60° (W4) wedge is a very good deal in and of itself, vintage or no.

I agree with what everyone else on here has said. Vintage to most of us has no direct specified years and or type ie: blades versus cavity backs---- In other sections of WRX mainly the equipment threads those would be looped in as " outdated and antique" which fits most of us here. So yeah $40 IMHO is a great deal and the shafts are worth that. I say hit them and enjoy them and hope you kick some serious butt with a set of Irons that cost you less than a dozen new Pro Vs.

Those were cast and perimeter weighted just like Ping Eye 2, but much better looking at address. Avery durable set and probably in decent shape. I played a set of those during the 1990s. Can’t go wrong at that price.

That W4 is one of the most playable 60 degree wedges ever because it has some bounce. It's a great sand iron too. I used one for over 20 years. I ran it through the tumbler every winter to freshen it up a bit.

I'm pretty sure the white slash on the clubhead means standard lie. I'm not sure what one signifies upright and flat. I had 855's one season and traded them for something with graphite shafts. Wonder if I would have been smarter just to have them re-shafted...live and learn!

$40 is a great buy and enjoy them!

I’m not sure how to define vintage, but classic, in golf club terms, I would define as a design that captured players of all ability levels. That set a standard that others copied, or improved on a standard. A design that stayed relevant even until today. A design that when you look at it you say “Yeah, I had a set of those. Great sticks. Wish I still had ‘em.”

By that definition the 845’s are classics.

There are three slashes there. Which of the three being the white one signifies std lie vs upright, vs flat. If the middle slash is white, that's standard. Upright lie is shown by the slash on the clubface side of the hosel being white.

If I were to score a set of these, I'd have to get the upright lie, thanks to my human t-rex physical dimensions. They aren't especially plentiful in the wild.
