I’m looking at doing a stay and play package at pebble beach. I’m wondering what pros and cons are for going thru pebble beach or a third party. E.g. complementary range balls, etc...

Had a buddy wanting to play there, get ready to spend some dough

If you dont plan on staying at the resort, you can only call 24 hours in advance for a tee time and you're looking at 525 + a cart fee of 40 per player. Caddies cost extra, almost 100 per bag. If you want to stay at their hotel, you are looking at 900 a night, with a minimum of a two night stay. Just be sure to read their fine print, it is crazy how expensive they are and the requirements to play there.

You might even want to look at the Dukes membership for Pebble, https://golfismentalblog.com/2015/02/11/how-to-play-pebble-beach-on-a-budget/ or https://www.pebblebeach.com/golf/del-monte-golf-course/membership/ to help keep from breaking the bank.

Mostly PING clubs, with TaylorMade woods.

Jesus what a scam - I guess people have paid (and will continue to pay) and that's why they can charge those ridiculous rates.

You’re closing in on $600 for a round of golf and you’re concerned with free range balls?

If you’re going and can afford it, do it right, stay at Spanish Bay, which is stunning and gets you a guaranteed tee-time.

The cheap alternative is the Comfort Inn in Monterey and a $50 to the starter to get you out as a single.

LOL

Scam...more of a decision as how one wants to spend the money they have earned. A scam would be those prices for a Red Roof Inn and the local muni.

Many that have played there say that if you love the game, playing Pebble is worth the price of admission. Next year Pebble will host the US Open for the sixth time since 1972. The US Amateur will be hosted by Pebble again this year. Some would take great joy in walking the fairways with a close friend, those same fairways where Nicklaus hit the famous 1 iron on the 17th hole on the final day...or the famous chip in by Watson on the 17th to win the 1982 Open.

Personally, I had quit golf for 9 years when my best friend called me last Spring and said I have something on my bucket list Buddy. We need to play Pebble and Spyglass! I started playing again the following week and we will play into that "scam" this July on the 23rd...less than a month before the US Amateur. Neither of us wealthy, he a high school teacher and we come from a town of 1700 people. Instead of a scam, we will consider it a check off the bucket list. A memory in the making that will live until we die!

The package is for 2 nights at Spanish Bay and a round at Pebble and either Spyglass or Spanish Bay. Starting July 27th through the end of August requires a 3 night stay. Pebble has a great range and the balls are free! My wife and I have stayed at Spanish Bay many times and it's a great place to stay.

My buddy and I are going the first week of July. Two nights at the Lodge playing Spyglass and Pebble Beach. For us it's a bucket list trip probably never to be repeated. Very expensive and I'm pretty sure it is going to be worth it.

  • 1 year later...

Wife and I just booked an Airbnb for late July with the hopes of me being able to play Pebble as a single. Has anyone here done that recently and been able to get on or know if getting a spot as a single few and far between? I called there the other day and the guy I spoke with was not as helpful as I had hoped.

Prefer not to spend the $1800 on 2 nights for the guaranteed tee time. BUT as my wife just said "you only turn 50 once".

Appreciate any feedback, tips or experiences.

Typically if you're staying at an Airbnb within Pebble Beach the owner should be able to make a tee time 30 days in advance. If not then Pebble will take a reservation 1 day in advance if not staying on property. If you decide to stay on property then ask about a stay and play package. It's usually ~$2,400 which includes 2 nights at Spanish Bay, one round at Pebble and one round at either Spyglass or Spanish Bay and usually a $100 resort credit.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just bit the bullet last Friday and booked a trip for next February - 2 nights at the Inn at Spanish Bay, playing The Links at Spanish Bay, Spyglass and Pebble . My dad is in his early 70s, but still in good heath, and I want to play there before my distance starts dropping off (I'll be 44 by the time of the trip). It's ridiculously expensive, but we're fortunate to have the resources to do it, and unless I somehow manage to get back there on someone else's dime, this will be a one-time deal. Now I just need to beg everyone I know who has any kind of connections to find a way to get on Cypress Point...
