Tour ad iz tip or no tipping

MrGolfenomics

Recommended Posts

Hi guys about to order a tour ad iz for my speedzone driver and 3 wood. Not sure if cobra tip shafts or not when installing.

My SS is 102-106 average. 3/4 swing fast tempo not smooth. Play off 6 .

Wondering if a 6s straight in be fine or if I should tip it at all .

Any advice he great as no iz bere to try.. I have a tour ad di 6s and is ok but little spinny at times..normally play Accra fx 260 m5 or hzrdous yellow 6.0

Thanks

No tipping here.

Keep in mind the IZ is basically the same profile as the DI, but the tip section plays significantly stiffer because it has T1100G in the tip.

As background. I play IZ 6S in driver and DI 7S/85S in fairway/hybrids.

I'm a shade faster than your average at about 105-108 mph. I'm basically right in the middle of stiff and x-stiff based on speed - but with a smooth transition/tempo, I do not load it aggressively at all. I could basically play either a S or an X, but prefer the feel of S.

Even if I want to go really go after one, and get up to about 111-113mph, the IZ holds up for me.

EDIT: ... And that's with a G410 - the heaviest driver head on the market...

I asked this question to Pro Choice Golf shafts previously. This was their response.

We recommend not tipping our shafts in the Drivers based on all of the testing that we have done. Yes, the PGA players do have access to extensive fitting opportunities that may include testing untipped shafts to tipped shafts in an effort to maximize the performance of the shaft in their club and per their swing profile. Tipping a shaft .5” to 1” will stiffen the bottom of the shaft, however it also moved the kick point down towards the tip, which may result in a higher launch condition. When you order a new driver from an OEM, I would recommend that you specify no tipping based on what we have found to perform the best. It is my understanding that Ping installs all of our Tour AD shafts straight in, no tipping in the Drivers, however a call to their customer service department to confirm this would be a good idea.

This post could be mine right down to the swing speed except I'm playing the IZ 6 in X flex untipped in a 410 LST. This shaft is not boardy at all, even in X flex.

Thanks appreciate the feedback . I think my head says 6s and my balls say 6x haha..il go with the head this time. Plus ordered my 3 wood with 7s..so likely be daft to go 6x

I have an aggressive swing but if your saying S still holds up what that speed then it's more than enough shaft for me.

I'm coming from a tz6 65 m4 which was plenty shaft for me also

Thanks again

I think if you're accustomed to using X flex in other shafts combined with your transition, you may well be suited to the 6X in the IZ. I further think the 6X in driver matches well with the 7s in 3 wood, as stepping up to the 7 in weight also raises the stiffness profile relative to the 6.

At 105 the x should be just fine. I’m slightly north of 110 and played the tx when I played the iz.

If you're in America, you can order all of them to test for a few days through Shaft Shack.

Good price - assuming you’ve checked authenticity.

Got to say though, that IZ looks heavily tipped for a driver shaft. The white “Accuracy & Distance” graphic is very close to the adapter.

For comparison, this is the IZ in my G410 LST. It’s untipped, which is Ping standard.

Thanks yeah done the checks on the wrap and has all the signs of a true shaft not taken drip off yet.. I played sat and hit it very well and doesnt feel tipped . I swing 105 average .I think if it was heavily tipped would struggle .. might be able to.check by measuring length and using but end graphics.. any idea what it should be at the top from butt end to the start of graphics?

I agree with above post that said it looks like it has some tip trimming. That white logo is much closer to the tip than normal, and gap seems bigger between last ring and bottom of grip. I don’t know the exact measurements so you can check, but worth checking out.

Sure thing.

From the tip of the G410 adapter to the "Accuracy & Distance" graphic is 5 inches.

From the butt of the grip to the first orange ring is 15.5 inches.

Looking out for your best interests, seeing as you've only recently bought that shaft and can possibly get a return done, I'd get the grip off ASAP to see what's under there. Authenticity aside, its trimming seems off - the Tour AD graphic should be closer to the grip while the A&D graphic should also be closer to the grip. So my concern would be whether an extension has been put in the butt end in order to make up the total length. It’s possibly just not been trimmed much at the butt (which would be odd as well) and just trimmed at the tip instead - but you probably want to find out for sure what the deal really is.

This is what I mean about the Tour AD graphic being closer to the grip. I’ve measured from the grip cap because obviously grips stretch, from the eye there looks to be more grey space there on yours between the grip and the Tour AD graphic, than mine which came straight from Ping untipped.

Good luck mate, hope you can get to the bottom of it and if you’ve been sold something that’s not right, can try to fix it up.

Cheers guys il need to dig out my ruler. But it looks to be about 3 or 3.5 inches from tip to graphics. He said he bought it with his sim as upgrade. It has a taykornwde grip see new pictures. Do the fakes have the laser etched works in the white part.saying distance etc..also the wrap looks correct I hear the fakes dont have the feel of a wrap around graphics..also added the picture of the other one I may get with ping tip

If it was ordered from TaylorMade then it was tipped 1 inch by default. I actually have a sim with an IZ 6s being delivered today that was a bst purchase. The seller told me he didn’t give TaylorMade any tipping instructions so I am expecting it to be tipped 1 inch. I can give you the measurements on it tonight if you haven’t found an answer by then.

Untipped AD IZ shaft with a taylormade adapter would have a measurement from the tip of the adapter to the first ring of 25 1/8"

Grip off confirms it's legit a shaft - and confirms there's no butt extension, so great news there.

Upshot: Looks to be tipped between 1" and 1.5".

In theory, that'll stiffen the feel up and move the kickpoint very slightly.

But dude, if it feels good to you and not too stiff, and you like the flight, then you're good to go in my book.

You now know for sure you have a legit shaft, with no dodgy modifications, that at the end of the day you like the feel and performance of.

Phew, and happy golfing!
