SkyCaddie LX5 watch - anyone seen one?

I could not find a thread on this already, if there is, I will talk a moderator into merging them...

Anyone checked this thing out yet? I was just saying in another thread that I would love to see a Garmin watch that could put the hole details from the UproMX into watch form and this looks pretty close.

The intriguing thing seems to be that for $299 you get the watch and a three year worldwide subscription. Puts it around $200 less than the Garmin S62.

I'm looking forward to seeing one in person too.  Another web site (MGS) in a preview of the device says it "is scheduled to start shipping in March" so I suspect we will have to wait a few weeks to try it out.

The Garmin S62 has a slightly larger screen, while the LX5 has the same size screen as the Garmin S60.  I would be interested in seeing all three side by side to compare bulkiness.

The question for me is, does SkyGolf's course mapping give the LX5 the edge over the more feature-rich S62 but which uses third-party maps?  I have owned a SkyCaddie handheld before and liked it a lot (except for the subscription part).

I'm also curious if a 1.3" screen is getting into the "saucer on the wrist" category...when is a big screen too big?

I saw it at the Show. Pretty nice looking, but then again it's a watch. Think of pretty much all the features in the SX500 scaled down. SkyCaddie acknowledged they were losing sales because of the subscription cost. Adding a 3-year subscription with the purchase piqued my interest immediately. For me since they also do their own mapping gives them an edge.

I've actually completely changed my tone on subscriptions like this. I used to be 100% against them but after seeing what a disaster companies like Game Golf can be without them - I actually dont mind them. Especially if it means the company can have a revenue stream that allows them to continue said service. Again, I dont love subscriptions but from a business standpoint I have definitely changed my perspective.

Saw the watch at the PGA show. I am a huge Skycaddie fan and have had their service for well over 10 years (first unit I owned was the sg2) which has allowed me to collect massive amounts of data about my game or lack thereof. I currently use the Linx GT watch because I wanted shot tracking. I really liked the new watch. It was easy to use, screen was nice and bright. It does not however offer shot tracking like the Linx GT so for me its a no go at this time. If you're not interested in the tracking feature then it really can't be beat. Skygolfs maps are the best and their customer service has been spot on for me when I have needed it.

When you say shot tracking, will it allow you to measure a shot? I do no want a shot tracking feature for the whole round but there are times when I do want to measure one drive or one iron shot after the fact IE - press measure shot on the teebox, walk to your shot, see how far it was.

It does have a single shot tracking feature like all of the other sky caddie devices. It just will not track an entire round like the Linx GT (Arccos, game golf...etc).

SkyCaddie is still unable to confirm a release date for this, they said it should be coming out "later in the year".

Still no word on release date and you would have to guess its going to be much later in the year.

But they have a product page now at least. $299 includes 3 years of service, $349 includes 5 years. Thats a pretty good price compared to say the Garmin S62. At $349 with 5 years of service included, its definitely something I would consider.https://web.skygolf.com/products/SkyCaddie-LX5

With all the S62 offers from a health monitoring and fitness tracking perspective, I think the S60 is the more similar Garmin product.

Is SkyGolf ever going to release this? Is the protracted delay a sign of the company’s health and future viability?

Just to close this out for me at least - I ended up with the S62. Every time I asked SkyGolf they said the same thing - we dont know when or if this is coming out this year. I dont think it is necessarily any sign about the company though. I think its a combination of the shutdowns and also, this is kind of what happens with SkyGolf in their new releases.

FWIW, their website has been updated to indicate shipping of the new product estimated to begin next week (6/22).

Somewhat surprised to see a slope adjusted distance won’t be provided with the LX5. If I’m not mistaken both the Garmin S62 and Voice Caddie G1 products do provide such a feature.

Just ordered one for myself. I've been a rangefinder guy for most of the last 10 years or so. I'll begin by comparing yardages on course between the rangefinder and LX5. Interested to see how close they are.
