$3.96 Black Putter Shaft

Recommended Posts

Has anybody tried this on their irons? I think it's time.

I have used the heat shrink tube on a bunch of my putters.

I once weighed a 34" long piece. It weighed 17 grams / half a gram per inch.

If your iron shafts are too light or your iron swing can handle the extra

static weight....It might be a viable option.....but if your goal is purely

cosmetic, it could have adverse consequences on your swing mechanics.

Well I did it....I ordered 2 King Black wedges with recoil 95 and 110 gram

shafts. Upon arrival I found them to be a bit light. I have been playing my

wedges with 110 and 125 gram shafts forever. So I used the heat shrink tube

to bump the shaft weights up 15 grams each. And as an added bonus, cosmetically

they are now full stealth. Black, on Black , on black

Pictures?

Did you notice a change in the feel of them during a swing? I want to entertain doing this to some irons but unsure if they're going to have a negative side effect

So I decided to play a little bit when it came time to regrip the irons this year, and opted to shrink wrap the shafts. I went with the 5/8th shrink wrap, and 50 feet was plenty to do the whole set, and ran out to I think around 23 bucks on amazon. (I also decided to do my putter shaft to match the grip/paintfill, and that 10 feet was another 6 or 7 bucks)...all told, I'm into this project for a whopping 30 dollars. The irons are definitely a little heavier than before, but that is a plus in this case as they felt just a tick light to me before. The putter doesn't really feel different, which is interesting. Overall the process was super easy, and made for a fun little project. And let's face it, if I decide I hate it, I can just take it back off. (And yes, the non-matching ferrules on the wedges are annoying me too)

Hey all, question about the process on this. I have my putter head off for refinishing, so working with just the shaft. I can't imagine you heat shrank the entire shaft tip, but maybe did a small portion of it so it set into the head? or did you just trim right up to the head and just bare shaft was in the head? Also same thing with the grip. Mine was a pain to get on, definitely had to clamp it and push. Does it work at all if the heat shrink is ran under the putter grip, I don't think it would stand up to being clamped and torqued. Or did you force the lip of trimmed heat shrink under the grip? Or are all these trimmed out to the base of the grip?

bumping - looking to do this for my scotty single bend shaft with black stabiltiy shaft since I want a more uniform/all black look.

How is the durability on it now that its been a while? also - anyone that has done this - which tubing did you use? Most of the links/photos in this thread are broken. Thanks!

I went to an electric supply store and bought 1/2 inch heat shrink tubing.

Holds up well and is dirt cheap if you have to redo it down the road.

Just an update as to the durability.

I did my putter shaft when this thread was first started in 2014.

So sorry to report it is now beginning to fray near the hosel.

You would think for almost $1 in materials it would last more than 8 years.

We're talking less than 500 rounds, somewhere in the neighborhood of 18,000 putts.

Don't waste your time or money! 🤣

Again, thanks OP.

Believe it or not, I still have enough left over to do another club or two.

That's some great longevity

Though much is taken much abides;
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Sorry for the zombie thread. Has anyone tried this and been able to tuck the tubing under ferrules on irons/putters? I'm curious how to avoid having a small gap at the bottom of the shaft. I would love to do this across my entire bag.

I don't know if tucking under the ferrules is feasible.

Mine (I do my wedges) are overlapping the ferrules about 1/16 inch. My ferrules are black.I start the heat shrinking process at the ferrule.

My putter has no ferrule. The wrap aligns with the top of the top neck of the putter head perfectly.

This is an easy process.

FYI, I have never types the word ferrule more in one post.

Good Luck.
