$3.96 Black Putter Shaft
Ordered new shrink wrap to do my Nome. Not sure how easy it will be with the double bend shaft and the fact that the shaft goes straight into the head.

Any thoughts or tips?
See my versa 1W 2 posts up and a few pages back, double bend is no issue.

I did and I would start at the head end of the shaft, don't cut it exactly to size on the head as you run the risk of it shrinking upwards and leaving some of the shaft exposed, easier to take a little off, impossible to add some.

Once it arrives I'll have a bash.

Shouldn't be too much of a problem I hope. Ordered a new Ping PP58 mid size grip as well. Fingers crossed it works. Just need to decide whether I should counter balance it at the same time!

Apollo black steel will work as well, it is $5.95 on the bay and comes in red, black, blue and ivory. The shaft is
.370. I have shafted dozens of putters with these shafts. Weight is 128 grams. Finish holds up very well.

So I'm not really a tech golf expert and have no intention of doing this for obvious reasons. But what affect would this type of "wrap" have on the flex of a shaft and on ball flight? I'm sure I'm not the first to wonder this....

well currently we are all just doing this on putters....so....flex nor ball flight matter. I dont know if you felt like doing it on irons and the effect it would have.

I've wrapped my two greenside wedges.

I've noticed no difference in the performance of either club on full shots.

After doing the aforementioned wedges and my putter, I still have enough left over from my initial $3.96 purchase to do any club in the bag. Maybe next regrip, I'll do a graphite shafted wood. Being this stuff is extremely flexible (rubbery), I don't think any "whippiness", or flex would be affected to any noticeable degree. Any weight change I think would be nominal.

Of course some of the folks here who notice flight characteristic changes when one of their tour issued cleats has a blade of impacted grass twisted within, may be more sensitive to any performance differences than a hack like myself.

Has anyone tried this on a graphite shaft, such as a driver or hybrid?
I have not, but, I see no reason why it wouldn't work just fine on graphite.
Just be careful not to overheat so as to compromise the shaft underneath. Low heat and keep moving the heat gun as you go, don't let it sit in one place too much.

I did an odyssey black #9 in a previous post here (for sale in classifieds btw). Very durable imho. Now found a potential alternative use for this stuff. Realized I mistakenly bought 60 core grips, I blow them on, 1 strip of this stuff made grip perfect size ~0.035 increase and the weight was actually less than an equivalent of 3 wraps of thicker buildup tape from Golfworks. I hate removing tape, even when using blow on method. I haven't hit my test club yet and curious if anyone has tried this and think it will hold up?

That seems genius if it works. Let us know.

Definitely working and holding well and it fact think it may even provide more friction on my pure grips that tape. Was thinking I could have scruffed it with sandpaper as well jic.. My real concern is that with changes in temp it may distort. Clear would be really cool so you could still see the shaft codes as well as any shaft alignment marks. Downside is certain pricier than tape/grip but still low cost and a time saver.

I'm sure it'll be fine, I wish I had thought of this before installing my salty grip which required a min .61" tape buildup, this would have saved time and tape.

Quick update:
I have noticed no change in the performance of my 5 wood or hybrid since wrapping the shafts. I did notice that I slightly melted the ferrule on my hybrid, but no harm done. Both are performing just as well as they did without the heat shrink. Overall, having these menacing looking clubs might help me mentally, as I have been ripping both clubs lately.

So I ordered the same stuff as the eBay link posted previously. They didn't have any 8' options left, so I ordered two 4' sections instead. Well, it came in one section, about 7'10" or so. I cut the first piece at exactly 4' and the second was probably 2-3" shorter. I knew I wanted to have two shots at this, so I used the shorter one first, just to see.

I forgot I left my heat gun in my garage in NC when I sold my home (I haven't done any club work myself since I've been in Illinois since my "workshop" is no more) so I had to use a hair dryer. Bad idea. I mean...it worked, but it was slow, and it just didn't work for very long. I don't think the air keeps going at the same high temp for very long. I started where the shaft meets the head as suggested, but that transition on the Ketch is really weird. Not circular or flat or anything....AT ALL. So there's a little, tiny little spot on the back side of the shaft where you can see chrome if you're looking for it, but I doubt anyone would notice it. I'm glad it's on the back, not the front, but I'll probably still get one of those Sharpie Paint pens and go at it from there.

So instead of being patient and picking up a heat gun tomorrow to finish the task or start over, I thought, "hey, I have a propane stove, might as well give it a shot." So I did. And it worked AWESOME. I turned one of the medium sized burners up to about half way and held the club maybe 6-8" above it so the heat was more concentrated in one spot versus in a circular pattern. It took really well. There was a small looking air bubble spot maybe 6" up from where the head meets the shaft, and the burner flattened it out perfectly. Using the stove, it only took maybe 3 minutes to do 75% of the shaft. I did this later at night and took a picture to send directly through text to a few buddies on the forum, so apologies for the potato quality photo, but here's what it looks like now. I'll update better pictures when I get the grip on (first I thought I didn't have double sided tape, then I found some and realized I didn't have solvent...d'oh) so I gotta wait until tomorrow to put the grip on which is going to be a SuperStroke midnight black 2.0.

Is it not cheaper to just by a spray can with matte black finish and spray the shaft?
That way you wouldn't have to take off the grip?
